DSC error kills car!

Upon receive the warning light I immediately pushed the clutch in trying to coast and get my bearings about what had just happened but the car killed itself.

Pulling over I attempted to restart the car to no avail as the car just cranked with no attempt to start (no gas or spark).

The car is a 2009 and completely stock.

There is no leaking fluid in the engine bay or on the floor, no burning smell or signs of error in the engine.

Any thoughts?

Probably won't help, but have you tried pushing the DSC button between the dash vents (with the ignition on) to deactivate DSC? If that doesn't work, I'd call the toll free number for a tow to the dealer.

Sounds like a computer malfunction. The dealer will likely load a software rev update.

I hope so! I've read threads on DSC malfunctions but I've never heard anything about it killing the car completely.

Update...
It's worse than I had suspected, from what my SA told me he had to call out the regional engineer which told him that a bolt came loose causing the timing chain to slip triggering my christmas tree of dash lights and my pistons and valves to becomes best friends!

here are the results.. (not suitable for small children!)

There contacting BMW right now to get approval for the a brand new motor.

..FML

Ouch! Well in a way it's kind of good it was catastrophic and not just bad. Now you get a brand new engine instead of a repaired one...

Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Bolt came loose? Which bolt? Please find out from the SA, so we can check ours, especially after the warranty. I don't want to have a stupid loose bolt cost me $15,000 down the road. Yikes!!!

Lester I asked the SA but he didn't know at the time. I'll check the final issue list when I get all the documents and report back. I really do think this is an isolated incident and was just due to a one off mistake seeing I had barely broken 2000 miles, also the issue would have arose in other peoples cars due to their higher mileage ( and wear and tear, I was very tedious with my break-in).

In all honesty my SA is one of the few reasons I bought another BMW.
(I had a 335i buy back before this due to 3 fuel pumps, 2 injector sets, 2 ecu reflashs, and a traction issue.) I think it's just my luck.

My $0.02 is that either bolt 7 or bolt 10 caused the issue since the chain slipped.

10 is the fulcrum and would have to come all the way out and fall off the car, whereas 7 is the tension adjuster. Perhaps the adjuster wan't set properly at the factory? What actually locks the adjuster into place? This diagram isn't real clear. If one of the #13 collar screws came loose, could that also cause one of the sprockets to slip?

I agree, it would most likely be bolt # 7. Same thing happened to my 300z about 7 years ago, fortunately my valves and pistons never met, however I did end up dumping 15k into rebuilding my car that year. Lesson learned.

I didn't realize that these were interference engines. I hadn't really given it much thought though. Having a chain instead of a belt typically makes it less of an issue.

Sucks about the problems for the OP. Hopefully they'll put in a new factory built long block, instead of trying to salvage a bunch of stuff from this one.

That's exactly what should be happening!

It sucks that you had to deal with it in the first place, but at least they're doing the right thing and sending a new long block.
