I'm in the same boat as you are. I like most of what I see so far with the 1M. I too feel that the engine needs to be special. As someone stated earlier, I believe that M has to touch the engine. Actually, I believe M has to do more than simply touch it, but modify its internals to make sure it is truly track worthy. My other choice is the e90 M3. If I am going to buy a heavier car it might as well have 4 doors and provide more function. I won't simply buy an e92 for aesthetics. The next generation M3 in four door trim would be most ideal. Turbo efficiency and torque plus four doors. Unfortunately, rumors exist that a sedan won't be in the next 3 due to low sales.. I guess we'll see.
