Bmw Sucks

Sorry have to say it I am a whole 20,000 mi into owning this thing and its had more problems than my last 2 toyotas and 1 nissan which had a combined total of 900,000 miles.

1- heat steering wheel works when it feels fit, dealer cant figure it out
2- heat on passenger side will only work if heat on driver side is increased to max and left on for about a min then you can adjust the passenger side
3- rear brakes squealing again
4- convertible top wont close... about to bring it to the dealer but they dont have any loaners and dont know if there is any public transportation available in the area. Looks like I have about 2 hours to figure this out before the storms come in....might need a rain jacket

What did you expect out a floppy noodle with an entry level BMW Badge?

Sorry thats for the other people that come in later. (youll understand the joke later - its an inside joke sorry that wasnt clear)

The car still has a warranty no? So take it in.

Also you couldnt have possibly expected Toyota liveforeverness out of a BMW. Granted you do have some interesting problems.

Have you try another dealer and see what they could trouble shot the problem? Just got an E93 and the top is rattle when I hit the bump and this car is only three weeks old and dealer can't find the root cause.Demand for a loaner when you take the car in talk to service manager perhaps they can spare a loaner.Good luck.

My first car was a Toyota Carolla. Had it throughout high school where it neared 200,000 miles and didn't once need to be serviced outside the routine oil change and general maintance/tuneup.

Now I drive a BMW, and since 2008 have weathered at least three service recalls and a few other warranty issues.

Absolutely. Zero. Regrets.

You know loaners are a courtesy rather than an entitlement, right? If they don't have any available, no amount of demanding will make it so. It's not like they keep one in reserve for the guy that loses his temper.

They should keep something truly awful around for just that purpose.

My dealer has a couple loaners saved away just in case for the nicer folks, no joke. (They are not technically loaners as they don't have the courtesy vehicle sticker on them.)

NOPE! I had my 2003 1.8T Jetta WB from 0miles to 135k miles.
Never got stuck in the snow! Only had one electrical problem in its life and the only reason I got rid of it was because I had bought it for my X wife and there was too much emotional baggage in that car.

Now I own a car that can't work in the snow, had a GPS that tried to kill me, a fuel pump that went south and came with ceramic filled tires that had no grip and runs on tires so thin that I have to constantly avoid any and all abnormalities in the road surface and constantly assure people that "they are not flat that's just how they look"

I'm not saying it's a bad car but just when I start to "love" the car I hear this stuff and get cold feet.

A decent set of snow tires and the 1 does just fine in snow.

Sorry about all of your problems. I would definitely look for other nearby dealerships. If another dealership doesn't help, you can contact BMW North America (located in NJ). They take matters like this very seriously. Good Luck!

OK I can appreciate that - I had a 2002 GTI that in the first 5,000 miles, left me stranded at school with a burst radiator, 2 coilpacks went bad and had to be towed (seperate incident) and windows that fell in the doors...the 135 has been less problematic.

Omigosh man, is it your purpose in life to defend convertible cars? You get so butthurt over every post about one, and then bring it up every time you get a chance.

To the OP. Sorry, man. I've had issues with my DCT. Otherwise, no complaints.

I don't have a heated steering wheel so no issues there. I've heard no complaints about heat on the passengers side but it doesn't get very cold here. My brakes make no noises and my top goes up and down but I'm on my third one. Does the OP know he has a tool to manually close the top? The tool should be back by the battery with the tow eye and the procedure is in the manual.

The average reliability is annoying, but as others have said....it's worth it 99% of the time. And i've been lucky (knocks on wood), haven't had any serious issues outside of one hpfp and a few small things here and there. The car has 34k miles, so we'll see what happens when it ages more.

JUDAS!

I'm going to stop over on my way home and buy a chicken, get home get naked and dance around the car covered in blood swinging a dead chicken over my head hoping that the car will be reliable and FUNCTIONAL in the snow!
