Not sure what your asking however the rear tires are a different size than the front's - so in a way the tires are position sensitive. As far as run-flats.... all E90 OEM tires are run-flats.

The front and rear are staggered (different width) if you get the sport package. If you don't get SP you'll get 4 of the same tires.

You could only rotate the across (change the two front tires and the two rear tires; you wouldn't be able to rotate from front to back). Anyway, someone posted earlier that it says in the manual that tire rotation is not recommended anyway.

you are special you can rotate them as long as you're willing to have the 255 on the fronts and the 225 on the rear don't rotate the damn tires, and don't think that not being able to rotate is a negative as a properly engineered rear wheel drive car will wear tires evenly. |

Number one factor that makes it impossible to answer your question - it depends on how you drive.
Treadwear rating is 140, so relative to the majority of tires on the market, the answer is a lot less than average. |

I´m sorry to disagree here ward, but I´ve had 3 (I believe properly designed) 3 series BMW´s so far. One 99 328Ci step with 205´s all round (16 inchers), one 2002 330Ci SMG with 225 front and 255 rear (18inchers) and one 2006 330i MT6 with 225 on 17inchers all round. All of them on factory wheels and tires. And all of them ate the rear tires faster than the fronts at a ratio of 2:1. Now my driving style may be different than yours, but I never even heard of or know of a car that didn´t have higher tire wear on the driven wheels (except for full time AWD of course where driving all wheels normally means even tire wear). So care to explain? You really have different experience in that matter? Brake alot, accelerate tiptoeingly ?

my old under powered 325e would wear fronts and rears at the same pace,
my 95M3 would eat rears quicker than the fronts, but not 2-1 faster, I'd maybe get about 5000 more miles out of the fronts vs rears (that car had same width all the way around, I only rotated one time per set near the end of the tires lifetime. I've only got about 10 thousand miles on my 325 and Z4 so it's too early to tell with those. I ran through about 3 sets of tires on the M, and 8-10 sets of tires on the 325e. (so I guess yeah, you're right, but on my first BMW car it wore em out evenly!) |

On my old 01 M3, I replaced the rear tires every year (~15kmile) while the front ones lasted 2-3 years. My rear was 275/35/19 and front was 245/40/19
