trunk trim piece

I bought my 2012 128i used and it is my first 1 series. Should there be a piece under the trunk carpet and covering the battety? Maybe a plastic tray or something?

The other half drives a Dodge and the battery is in the left near-side wheel well. You read that right, the damn fender. To comfortably change it, you have to take off the wheel… Of course it died at 9pm on a 14 degree night 2 weeks ago. What a nightmare that was.

I opened my trunk and pointed to mine and said "this is where a civilized car designer puts a battery!!"
