Educate me about 1-series production.
If all 1-series Coupes run down the same production line why are certain colors and certain options (like cloth seats, sunroof delete, wheels) not available in all markets. I can't wrap my mind around that logic. If the car behind mine goes to Germany in LeMans blue, without a sunroof and cloth seats why can't mine?

a kia has cloth seats, so god forbid if a BMW came with them.
We really get the short end of the deal with options, but we pay alot less. And by alot, I mean ALOT.

You're right about that. I just built a car from the German BMW site comparable to the one I've ordered. Check out the currency conversion. Euro 41100 to U.S. Dollar 61,006 Could you imagine having to fork up $61,000 for a moderately loaded 135i?

For the record, I'd like a AW 135 with black interior and pearlpoint orange/black combo seats (a 400 euro upgrade). Ulrich |

One thing that I can't understand is why I could not get the 6-fl usb ipod interface. I was told it is only available as from April builds for SA, yet Europe got to fit these in November already? Can't see how this could impact on the BMW image/brand (as nobody sees it) and I also do not pay A LOT less like those of you in the US. :iono:

Measuring Purchasing Power Parity (how much your hard earned dollars will buy you in your specific region versus another all other variables aside), the United State ranks 4th in the world whereas the UK and Germany rank 14th, and 28th respectively. So yes, things are cheaper in the United States, and if you worked your same job in Germany you probably wouldn't get paid a lot more. |

This is just speculation, but I wonder if the factory bunches together orders for US production runs so they can order only US option bits for "just-in-time" delivery, thereby saving a little in production costs. :iono:

This limitation is the doing of BMW NA, not BMW AG.
There is a long list of Euro-only items that we can't get here. Ulrich got spoiled (like me) with a MINI where you can custom order just about anything you want for your car. |

Exactly right, Jack. And those cloth seats on my 03 Cooper S are keeping me nicely comfy in hot and cold weather. Ulrich |
