got my 135i last night!
Picked up the car last night. Really fun, love that torque after coming over from driving rotary engines and Miata's.
Things to do next: -CDV delete -Dinan SSK -probably baseline dyno Couple questions: -I know the previous model years without iDrive could not play audio from Bluetooth over the speakers. Is this true of the '13's as well? -What's the optimal break-in? The dealer told me just keep it under 90 mph and shift before 5k rpm until 1200mi. Anything else? -Does anyone have PDF's of the shop manual?

Less Instagram and more real pictures please......congrats on the purchase.
All break-in's I've done is varying your speed, don't drive 60 mph for 20 minutes and no hard accelerations until the first oil change. Speed limit is 65, drive 65 for a while then drive 55-60 for a while then 65-70 for a while that way the engine has a good variant of RPMs to "set". Just using that as an example. I never went any higher than 3.5k in the first 500 miles or accelerated hard after 500 miles I didn't go above 5k RPMs gave it some more throttle, never more than 75% until I changed my oil around 1200 miles. Then after the oil was changed I started driving it like it should be driven with no issues. I've done that with my '06 GTO, '10 Camry, '12 135i and '13 Tundra. I know it can be hard not wanting to push the pedal to the floor but that's the way I've done it. Everyone has their own ways of doing tings but I usually see people driving the car like it's suppose to be driven after the 1st oil change. |

If you ask some people they will say you can drive it hard right away and that only ///M cars need to be broken in gently. But I did like stated above. The first 1200 miles I didn't go past 100mph or 4500rpm yes the 2013s have enhanced Bluetooth where you can strem music or videos or whatever from your Bluetooth device or Bluetooth phone and it will play on the car stereo. However you have to have BMW assist feature to have this "enhanced" Bluetooth (unless the feature packages have changed sense I've ordered which they often do I ordered my 2013 late summer 2012) otherwise you will just have the normal plain Bluetooth for phone calls. Hope this helps.

As for the sticky link, thanks, I already got the owners manual PDF. I was hoping someone might have a link to the *shop manual*? Does anyone have it on CD-ROM/DVD? Can you buy it from BMW? I just like to have the full documentation on how my car works and everything. Regarding break-in, have any of you heard of the 'hard' break-in? Do you buy into it at all? I sort of wonder if BMW does this at the factory or not...? http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm The turbo on the N55 as I understand it is a twin-scroll design. I believe it was Porsche that was using a twin-scroll that actually 'machined' itself into the turbine housing when it first ran. Don't know if there is something similar with the turbo on the N55? I asked when it was time for the first oil change and the dealer said 'the car will tell you.' But I've also heard of people on this forum changing their fluids at 1200mi just as a precaution? Ok, here's a pic from after my drive in this morning:

your car should go in at 1200 miles for fluids change.. seem like in some places they have removed this.. but i would anyway if the car doesn't "order you to at about 1200"
If you don't know it realoem.com is super useful re parts numbers, exploded diagrams etc. We all know how much you are about to enjoy your car! Soon you will too.. 1200 miles is not that long to wait.

A friend of mine who is a salesman told me once that the turbo engines from BMW come "broken in" as he put it and you can drive them however you please at the beginning. He tells me to drive it how I would at any other mileage.
So that's what I'm going to do.

I have yet to figure out how to get music to play over Bluetooth. I have the HK stereo with BMW Assist. The phone works fine via Bluetooth, but I'm baffled as to how to get music to play. I would think Bluetooth would be listed as a source on the head unit?

Congrats on your 1
You may want to look at other SSk's out there. The Dinan SSK only has a 8% reduction in throw according to their info. Not that great of a change IMO.
Good luck |

Well I'm sure you have the feature to stream. But sense I have I drive I only know how to access it that way. Hopefully someone will chime in for you.

Edit: Unpairing and repairing didn't work. I have a Bluetooth receiver on my home audio system. The interesting thing is that the home audio receiver shows up as a PAIR of headphones and is listed as an audio device on the phone, while the BMW shows up as a HEADSET icon with a single headphone and a microphone. Sorry for the crappy pic: blackberries do not take photos well, especially not of other phones... Notice the difference between the two Bluetooth device icons. I was able to route audio through the phone portion of the head-unit, but this resulted in mono, low-quality audio. Seems like a software issue for them to implement A2DP in the head unit......BUT I was just thinking, the A2DP results in a two-way stream, and isn't BMW a big stickler about not allowing so-called copyrighted material off a device? BTW, I joined my local BMWCCA.

It's not the pairing of the phone. Like I explained up above when a phones paired it automatically is only paired for phone call use. You have to access the options menu for the phone paired on the car and select audio as well as the phone use. Here's a pic of it in my car you haave to access this option to get it to work man. When the phone is paired the audio box is never selected. I have to go andselect it also then streaming audio works as well. Now like I said how you access it on the normal headunits without idrive i have no clue but it should be in your owners manual

"Hard break-in" is just your usual collection of idiocy by a group that lacks basic mechanical understanding. Don't forget to swap the fluids at 1200 miles as well, you will have a lot of metal particulate matter from the initial break in.
