Personally, I think this makes perfect sense. More than a 335i, since it is an "M", but 10k below the M3 price. Thoughts?!?

Below is the information I used to calculate the estimate price.

BMW 135i - 36,050
BMW "M1" - ??????

BMW 335i Sedan - 40,600
BMW M3 Sedan - 55,400
= 26.8% price increase

BMW 335i Coupe - 42,650
BMW M3 Coupe - 58,400
= 27% price increase

BMW 335i Convert - 51,200
BMW M3 Convert - 67,050
= 25.7% price increase

BMW 550i = 59,700
BMW M5 = 85,700
= 30.4% price increase

BMW 650i Coupe = 78,450
BMW M6 Coupe = 102,350
= 25.6% price increase

BMW 650i Convert = 85,550
BMW M6 Convert - 108,150
= 21.9% price increase
I'll bet we see a 30% increase on this one making it just shy of $50k, can't see anything with an M label going for much less than that, BMW KNOWS it will sell even at that price.

I agree with you BUT, if it's true their only producing 2500 units, I would think they would have a slightly lower introductory price, such as $46k because they KNOW no one will be paying MSRP. Every dealer will charge $5k mark-up at least.

Since this car is coming 2 years after the 135i, it can't have a long production cycle, knowing this, if they price it around 50k with very limited production, no one would actually be driving one for MSRP - so they most likely paid 53-55k, and if thats the case, why not haggle on a 2009 (or 2010 by the time the "M1" comes out) M3, and get it cheaper?

I could be totally off, but I really think this car will be mid 40's if it's low production. Either way, all units will sell if it's limited, even if it's 50k, but I can't see BMW pricing this car that close to the 335is, and only 5-6k under the M3...

45k =

50k+ =

hopefully their "customization program" will lower the MSRP. like if you make the CF roof an option, it will keep costs down.

i dont understand how they can reel in more buyers by offering this car at a high price. it makes no sense. 1er is tiny and the ride is going to be "harsh" by soccer mom standards... in other words its a niche car, and if you give it a niche car price how does that make the M series more accessible to the "regular buyer"? just because its less expensive than a M3 or M5???

Have you seen the price of Audi TT-RS or Porsche Cayman S?

The M1 (E82) looks very much like M3 (E46): I6, RWD, same weight if not lighter, same power if not more, same chassis if not better. The only diference is FI. It looks like a better M3 (E46). Can't wait for the limited version M1 CSL (E82), could be a better M3 CSL (E46) and do the N-Ring in 7:40 min. Imagine this for a simple BMW 1 Series!

Yes. So many people think that "affordable" M car means anybody can have one! Quite the contrary. All this means is that the relatively to moderately affluent wont have to shell out 10k more the for nearest BMW M coupe.

The average age of those buyers are in the 40's. I promise you that.

$54,310 for E.D M3 or $50k for US "M1" Delivery..

Not a hard choice at all in my opinion...

This is a bit off topic, but if you do E.D, and don't want to pick it up in Europe, can you have it go straight to the port?

depends on how you want to interpret the whole "making the M series more accessible" thing. if they just mean making a 1M thats obviously less expensive than a M3 then ok... or they could give you a real performance value on a small car with an aging chassis that most people wouldnt buy due to size alone....

You can't do E.D. and not pick up the car.

It is right, it will not be called M1, but something that we do not expect: M1 Coupé.

PS: This thread is about quad exhaust and not name.

One of the main reasons I want a 1er is because it looks like the e46 and e39 cars. It has the straight edges and looks slightly modernized. I can't believe this is finally going to be an ///M1 thats not gonna break the bank for younger buyers. Ive gotta start saving lol.
