I got a compliment today..
unfortunetly it was from an officer who was giving me a fix-it ticket for my front licence plate. Don't these guys have anything better to do?

Sorry to hear it. Others on this site have used front plates that don't require screws, etc. If interested, check a search. I really don't understand the need for front plates.

They are doing it better by letting you follow the law. Why? what was wrong with your front plate, is it missing?

Being a fellow enthusiast of front-platelessism(?), cops eye me all the time though, when in the 135, I've learned to take routes not frequented by law-enforcement, also, it's a good idea to position yourself behind another car whenever in a crowd. This is what Medfordians face...they're everywhere.

This cop followed me today for about a mile from a main street all the way to the entrance of a neighborhood. It really started pissing me off when he actually tried to pull up beside me but I just didn't look at him.
I get he wants to catch me speeding but thats nearly impossible since I have the Escort but tailgating? sigh...I can't wait to activate my rear fog lights so I can shine some lights on tailgater's eyes. |

Plates already? Your temporary registration is still good, right?
Could fight the ticket if your temp reg is still good, but probably not worth the $10 to stick the plate in your window and have a cop sign off on it.

Hahaha, when I see cop in front of me I'd purposely change lane so he has no line of sight to my front bumper. Risk we take running plateless.

all this just to not drill into your bumper. I love the look of the M lip, but I will put my front plate on just to avoid having to hide.
Plus, I plan to be doing other against the law activities...

Well, I finally broke down and mounted my front license plate. I got pulled over once already for it and to be honest i was tired of hiding it everytime a cop was near me. I got off the first time because the car is new and I had the plate sitting on my front seat. Didn't feel like worrying anymore.

Can you not place it in your front windshield while driving?

glad to know that all major crime in SF has been taken care of and the cops can focus on cars without front plates.
BTW, the only time I have be given no front plate ticket was in SF. Since I go there so rarely I assume they issue them to people as soon as they enter the city limits. |

You also run the risk of being decapitated by your license plate in the case of an accident.

Actually, I have no problem with the fix-it ticket....I expected to get one eventually. I will do the no-holes fix, and quickly take it off again. The stupid thing is that there are many cars that do not have a front plate (of course I was looking at every car after I got the ticket). I think this sort of ticket should have really been an add-on to a moving violation, and not the main violation. And, in the voice of Cliff from Cheers, he said a few times "the state law is..", blah blah blah. But that's just B.S, because we all know many dumb laws that are valid, though not enforced. He decided to enforce this one. The dozens of other officers I've come cross didn't care. I would have pushed the issue, but I didn't want him to find out about my catless downpipes
