CD Change on 330i - did you get it?

Hello all,

I went to several dealers and several of them said that this was not a hot item.

Just to give you a brief history, I currently have an Audi and love the in dash CD changer. My understanding is that the BMW is an external CD Changer mounted in the trunk...is this true? Can you mount it anywhere inside the car?

And why isn't this an item desired by the owners? Is it because they are all playing MP3's?

Please give me guidance...

Thanks,
e4.

i'm not sure about E90 but my E36 has its changer in the trunk and that is why i don't want it. it never really made sense to me to have in the trunk so i completely skipped it when i was ordering my E90. i like the traditional one-disk players where i change it to CD i want whenever i want. especially now, that they play MP3s...

No way the car plays mp3's so no need for a changer!

I had a CD changer in one of my previous cars but I found I very rarely used it. I only found it useful for long trips and those were few and far between.

When I worked out how many mp3s I was going to be able to squeeze onto one CD, I realised the changer wasn't that useful, so didn't specify it either.

i think it's not desired because it's freak'n $600!! if it were more reasonable like say $350, then yeah, you can even find Alpine aftermarket changers for like $250

On top of that, just think of the amount of mp3's you can fit on a DVD? I know for a fact that one of the members tested this already and it worked.

I see a consistent answer MP3....I love MP3s, don't get me wrong..and I use the iPod; however, how do you keep track of all the songs? If I get the iDrive, can I circle through the catogories like the iPod, or would I have to look at the iPod and click through the music that way?

How do you guys/gals have it setup?

Voltron you mentioned DVD, can you play DVD in the normal player or do you need iDrive or do you need the HK Logic7?

Thanks,
e4

Right now there is no iDrive integration with the iPod, so yes you would need to look at the iPod to click through music (or use something like the AirClick remote control). One thing I can recommend, however, is creating playlists ahead of time. This is a common practice so you probably already know this, but since you asked about keeping track of songs...

On my 40 GB Archos Gmini MP3 player, I have tons of albums but rarely would I want to listen to an entire album. So I have different playlists of songs I know I want to listen to in my car, to suit different "moods". That minimizes the need for me to skip to the next song, look through dozens of albums, etc. because I've already pre-selected the music. This is really why you wouldn't need a CD changer, or even have to create a single MP3 CD. Your playlists are like CDs, and choosing a different playlist is like changing a CD. Get it?

For the amount of money you would spend on a changer, go get a good mp3 player and plug it into the AUX jack. I play my iPod through there, and I have access to over 5,000 songs. Nice neat and organized, and any song you want is a click away. I have my iPod sitting right next to my shifter, so its real easy to change songs there. Just as easy as hitting a button on the steering wheel. :rocks:

You are so correct & Thanks!

I did not think to check DVD & CD slot since I had update.

Wonder what's up? When I ordered my car in May.
I was told & all brochures said Nav. cars has to have Changer.
Guess BMW got so many complaints & put MP3 on all drives?

I'm still really glad I got the Changer because MP3's look better!
Meaning: DVD & CD slots don't show complete song titles.
Only 8-10 characters per song title tops?

My CD Changer shows complete album title @ top next to root.
Almost all song titles are complete unless more than 25 letters?
