C63 vs. 135
So I test drove a C63 AMG on the weekend, and had some thoughts that I thought I would share. Although the C63 and a 135 are not really directly comparable considering price / specification, however it seems to be an often considered 'next step' for 135 drivers, especially since the M3 is financially a bigger leap. (For those interested, I test drove a with a family member, who ending up buying on the spot).
Notes: C63 was a 2011 four door auto. My 135 is a 2011 stock dc-t. Power The power delivery was excellent, it felt quick. Quicker than my 135 (obviously) but I was perhaps expecting a little more. Handling / Steering I found the C63 to be very predictable, and felt that I got know it very quickly—which was great. It definitely felt like a bigger car and not as 'precise' as my 135. The steering was noticeably lighter than the 135i and found it easier to drive whilst cursing and in normal city driving. Transmission This was perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the car. I felt the transmission felt a little slow (in all modes, and using the manual shifters). I definitely prefer the speed and shift on my 135. Interior Dash / centre console felt a little bland. But the rest of the interior quality was excellent (better than the 135) and the front seats are truly awesome! The front / rear wasn't as spacious as I expected. Sound I love the sound of the turbo six, but the V8 sounds incredible. For me, C63 has this hands down! Overall, I absolutely loved the C63 and it was brilliant fun to drive and without a doubt it is a 'better' car and I think what you get for your $ is excellent, especially if you go demo or low km s/h. But I've got to say, I didn't enjoy the drive home any less in my 135 and I'm certainly not in a hurry to change. Keen to hear others experiences! Cheers. |

Yeh I've driven C63 and 135 back to back a few times and would take C63 anyday. Stock tyres on the C63 are crap though... can't really enjoy the performance with TC kicking in constantly.
But the noise one gripe I guess is that NA cars with their linear power delivery are just a tad bit less exciting than turbo... |

Yep — obviously you would if looking to purchase. The point of my post was more for people 'stepping up' and providing a comparison with a common basis. |

From what I understand (Drag or from a roll racing)
FBO N54 (Downpipes, mids, tune, intercooler, intake) will loose against a stock C63 - (JB4 - If you filled up with 40% E85 and ran Map 5 it could be darn close though). FBO + meth N54 will just beat a stock C63 Tuned C63 including P31 pack etc will beat a FBO + Meth N54. To beat a Tuned C63 you will need RB's, FBO + meth. To trash a C63 a single turbo conversion. |

I test drove the C63 and enjoyed it a lot more than the M3. Biggest difference is in the steering, the C63 is really light compared to the 135i. Not necessarily in a good way either. The exhaust note sounds fantastic, can't beat that V8. My 135i had an AA axel back with DP's and at the time there wasn't much difference in volume (mine was probably louder) but the C63 sounded sublime. With an aftermraket exahust it would be amazing. When I got back into my car it felt like a go kart in comparison (coilovers, LSD, tyres etc). The C63 is a really nice car though, acceleration is fantastic, instant power at any speed and just overall a solid well made car. My modded 135i feels like a more hardcore sports car but I'd happy own a C63, any day. The engine in the C63 is just brilliant, has so much potential too.

The C63s look and sound magic IMO. I just can't bring myself to drive an auto as a daily driver, but I reserve the right to change my mind at any point in time!

It's like seeing your school teacher wearing a bikini.

I've driven the C63 and it's an awesome piece of engineering (far better than a 135i) but prefer the feeling a forced induction car better.
I raced Suj's C63 with the power package rated at 358kw (310wkw) and although we didn't get any really clean runs I would say a 135i FBO + meth would be on par with this variant but a little quicker than a standard one. That V8 has a lot of potential once played with. |
