Sub Install Pics / Directions!
heres some pics of my install... i will get some more detailed ones soon
its actually pretty easy and really adds to the logic 7! the battery is on the right side of the trunk, this is where I hooked up the power cable and ground. make sure to use a fuse within 18" on the power cable (safety reasons). i pulled the wires out a bit so you could see where i ran them. once pushed in you cant even see they're there. this is the stock amplifier (logic 7). i used an Adjustable Output Adapter from radioshack (any one would work, but I have no experience with any other brands). it takes the line output from the stock amp and converts it to RCA. i tapped into the stock sub wires... Left channel : wire 8 + , wire 18 - Right channel: wire 6 + , wire 16 - i ran the rca cable the same as the power (except its the left side of trunk) . here it is with the sub and amp all hooked up. i have a JL 12w6v2 in a 1.5cuft ported box (made myself)... the power is coming from a JL Audio 500/1 (mounted on the top of the box). if you have ever installed a system before, this will be very easy as everything is done inside the trunk. i am very happy with the results, plenty of bass and fills well with the other stock speakers! any questions just let me know! hope you find this useful!

I've never done an audio install and would like to do what you did. Can you give a more detailed DIY with more pics. Very newbie to audio installations and would like any help possible, (been thinking about this since I bought the car 1 year ago). One more thing, I didn't have the cold weather package so my trunk is completely sealed, will the bass of 2 10" Alpine woofers be enough?

Matt, how big is your woofer box? So I'm assuming you just did it plain-n-simple style and left it in the trunk without attempting to stealthily place it somewhere so as to conserve trunk space?
I noticed that you didn't line your box yet with any kind of non-slipping felt - you gonna strap/bolt that box down somehow?

i am going to strap it down with some L - brackets once i carpet it. the trunk is already so big... i really dont have anything that would ever fill that up. that is why i have a longbed ford f-250.
as for the size of the box, i believe the dimension are 26" x 14" x 13"

Is the ground connected to the battery? I don't know if that's a good idea --maybe you should ground to the chassis to avoid shorting something out.
Also, how did you solve the problem with the remote wire? Where did you run remote signal from? |

i think the jl amps are underrated... i think your 250/1 will pump out more than 250 watts rms... i know my 500/1 is more than 500 rms... i find that sometimes i have to turn the bass down with the headunit bass control... i guess it all depends on what kind of music and your personal preference... im sure 250 would be a nice fill with the stock.
as for the remote turn on... jl amps have the option to get the signal from the rca's... so there is no need for a remote wire.

i dont think its a problem.... i am a member of a audio forum (caraudio.com) and have installed several systems with no problem...
the reason i did this was because of "ground loop" that sometimes occurs when you ground to the chassis. heres a link to what some of the members have done (with no problems) ...... <p>Now this is A LONGGGG Ground!!! haha thanks for the concerns and inputs....

Hey..when you did the installation..you obviously disconnected the battery. Did you have to get your airbag error reset? I had my sub installed today and am getting that message. I was going to put in 1 10w6, however after it was installed, it sounded horrible. We threw in 2 10w1's and Rockfords low end 2 10" ported subs and it sounded alot better. The one that sounded the best was the Rockfords but I still want the JL's...The rockfords look pretty tacky...
Did you have trouble getting good sound?

I just installed 1 w6 10" in my car with a mtx amp. I had the leads hooked up to the sub under the seat and the box blew. It sounded great with the signals coming from the sub. But after it blew the installer hooked a new one up to the rear speakers and the sound isn't the same. I have logic 7 and was told the system sends certain signals to different speakers that's why it doesn't sound the same. Is there something I can get to get sub bass instead of the midrange bass I'm getting. Thanks

Didn't install it myself, but the shop did it by hooking directly into the wiring to the stock amp, just as the original poster did. No issues at all.
Have a 500W amp, with twin 10" subs in a box, & had to set it down a bit to keep from overpowering the rest of the system. Only problem is that my gas fill cap rattles--only hear it from outside the car. Glued on a round felt thing, like those used on cupboards to keep them from slamming, but thicker. Anyone found other solutions to the vibrating gas fill? |

I'm having problems as well...I blew two amps so far....I have to wait till next sat for them to diagnose and find out why it keeps blowing amps since I am not free till then...
Why is it so tough to get a amp / sub installed in this thing?!
