Request Michelin PSS Advice
I need some input regarding replacing the runflats. My car will be delivered next week and I am set on the MPSS's. I can't decide on keeping the stock size or going to 225/255. I am keeping the 313 wheels because I love the way they look. I will also be changing the springs to the BMWP suspension ones. How many people are using 225/255 MPSS on the factory wheels? Zero rub is my number one priority. I don't want to mess with any fender rolling/pulling or having the strut tube contacted. Thanks

I'm 95% sure they wont rub unless you really put tons of weight in the car and then hit bumps at speed. Stock sizes would work just as good. I'd go stock sizes unless I had or planned other performance mods.

I went through this last week. I have the standard 313 wheels my car came with and went with the 225/40 front and 255/35 rear. Standard M-sport suspension. Zero rubbing. No fender roll or anything. I can tell you I'm still in awe over how the MPSS have transformed the car. I now know why the 1addicts community can only praise these tyres performance. Just do it - you wont regret it.

I also have nothing but praise for Michelin tires. Mine did rub just a tad for about a week. I wouldn't really say rub it was more like a scrape - but after a few times the noise went away. I think its the little strands of rubber on the tire mold release. Here is my review of the PS3's. Next time I will be getting the PSS.

Did any of you guys with this setup rub the fronts at full lock either direction? Also I feel that I must put the 10mm lower performance springs on to make the car stance look perfect. Well, I guess if this rubs, someone on here will get a nice set of MPSS at a painful discount.

I used 225/255 with no rub on wheels that had a bit lower offset. You should have no trouble.

If you're going to keep the suspension/wheels relatively stock why would you want your tire profile taller with 225/255?? it just makes the car seem its wearing an all season snow tire.. Those 5mm of rubber on either side isn't going to improve performance, so it really comes down to appearance, the slicker looking profile fitment you get with 215/245 looks sportier than a taller profile 225/255 tire.

^^ Yes I know it doesn't rub and I'm glad you like the results on your car. It's the higher profile that looks wrong IMO, take a look at the pic below and you can see the sidewalls are chunky (225/255) compared to stock 215/245 spec. I would only consider increasing the profile on my 4WD or similar, but why make your BMW look like a Toyota

TS135i: I certainly appreciate your and everyone else's guidance in the decision. I feel the stock size is just a bit too thin on the profile and that the 225/255 fits the character of the car better. Your setup looks perfect to my eye. I'm just concerned about the rub after performance springs. Here's the pros I see to the upsize
1. Better grip w same balance. 2. Better impact absorption. 3. Fills wheel well better 4. Adjusts the speedometer inaccuracy about 4% |

After 3 RFT blowouts in 6 months and a cracked rim, I'm in the process of also going to PSSs on aftermarket wheels (prob Alufelgen CS7). Looking at the upsize tire, I'm wondering if that would alleviate some of the road hazard potential. Admittedly, I don't like the look as much.
PS This is coming off my last car, 02 GTI 337 that had 18" 40 series PS3s and BBSs, and not a single blowout or rim damage in 11 years and 155K. |

Well... maybe some of us like that look! And besides... there are so many tires in this 225/255 size. And the PSS also come in this size. AND... to top it off... BMW is now using these sizes on the new F20/F30's - so "we" were right all along switching up to the 225/255's on 7.5"/8.5" factory wheels.

Does anyone have more pictures of the car above? Getting PSSs soon and might want the slightly higher profile to deal better with NYC potholes.

That is my car! Didn't click on my link I posted? Here it is again... My new Michelin PS3’s 225’s & 255’s… http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...chelin+PS3%27s Like I said with the 225/255's you have just about zero rubbing issues. Some car will rub just a tad in the rear for a few cycles of the suspension. Then it stops. I drive my 135i a lot and I have zero issues with tire rubbing. I would really recommend this tire size option. Its why so many of us run this size. You can also see more pics of my car here...
