You have no luck with cameras. Are you and your 1 series pretty photogenic??
You know you can lose your license if you get too many of them in a short period of time?? Be safe

Been hit by that one too! And the 100kmph section is only like 1/4 mile long! I hate that! Fortunately I had the blocker on before I got hit by that one.

Yes, I am aware that I can lose my license. I am also aware that when my chain gets this next one, they'll probably take it from me anyways. I have a about a month or two to come up with a pretty darn good excuse as to why I took care of one hefty ticket, only to turn around 2 hours later and get another one. I have been here for almost 4 years and these would be my first two tickets....its the car. I'm claiming the Toyota-defense...it was the car. And no, photoblocker hasn't showed up yet. I had to order it from the states. I am staying off the autobahn until it gets here...

LOL, well, one of the good things about being there is that you get to choose when you will forfeit your license. I can't remember the time frame but it's not immediate. Since we were always TDY (MX), We would just give it up right before we leave and get it back when we return. Sneaky lil SOB's

Maybe I will have a mini-auction among friends to see who wants to drive the 1er (with me in the passenger seat) for 30 days Or, plan B...I just say it wasn't me. I could cut off/dye my hair before the ticket shows up. I'm desperate, I know.

I thought I'd share this...
Near here in Bayreuth, the Polizei are looking for this guy in this Audi A4. It is some Brit who when he see's a Blitz camera he purposely speeds up and gets flashed. BUT... his car is RHD, and he puts a big muppet doll up on the windshield. Apperently the speed cameras are designed to NOT photograph the passengers. SOmething about the lenes they use. Its only setup for LHD cars! Obscurring the passenger seat goes back to when the Germans first started using photo radar. They use to mail out a letter/ticket along with the offending photo. Apperantly the divorce rate shot up(!), bc many men were caught with their pants down! lol That is why when you get a ticket now, in the mail you must ASK to see the photo. And only the driver can come. lol Btw... last I heard they were still looking for this Muppet! I have also heard that some people keep a UK car here in Germany and a German plated car in the UK. That way when they get flashed they do not get the ticket unless there is a real cop to stop them! Last edited by Dackelone; 04-03-2010 at 06:36 AM.. |

That actually happened to me in the rental. Right where the OP got popped. Me and the ex-wife both had our Hondas serviced at the same dealer. After we split up, she had a cracked windshield and I got hit. So we both had our cars in the repair shop. I got flashed in the rental and the polizei sent the pic to the dealer (owner of the rental). My ex came in to pic up her car and they showed her the pic and said "We have a great pic of you!"....Yeah....it wasn't her. LOL

I did, back in January 08. I was headed to Wurzburg in the E30 that you see in the pic below (before I got the 135). I was going to a formal social for senior leaders of my unit and my boss fell asleep in the passenger seat. I was on A6 headed to Heilbronn and was passing an area called Bad Rappenau (they always put cameras there) I was about 180-190 kph and it became a 120 zone. I didn't even see the sign and when I rolled by the semi on the far left all I could do was push clutch, foot off of gas and .
My boss got a little startled, woke up to see the flash and the Polezei scrambling out of the van. He looked at the speedo and said "did you just get flashed?" I dropped it back in 5th and said "yup" and gunned it. Up to this day (knock on wood) it never came. I have also heard if 6 months go by and no ticket= you're off the hook.

The Polizei will give you a 3% off "discount". ie: what every speed they clock you at, they minus 3% and THAT IS the speed they write the ticket up for. This is bc by German law a speedo(Germans call the speedo the TachO) has to read ATLEAST the actuall speed. Its ok for a speedo to read too fast.... but NOT slower than the actuall car speed. US made cars are not like this! IF you have a GPS (ie TOM TOM, or Garmin) you can see what your REAL speed is - at the speed they took your picture. Here is the German law: "Tolerance, taken off from the measured value: usually 3 km/h with less than 100 km/h, over it 3%. Under normal conditions the speedometer of the car indicates more than the actual speed." "Toleranz, vom gemessenen Wert abgezogen: meist 3 km/h bei weniger als 100 km/h, darüber 3%. Im Normalfall zeigt der Tachometer des Autos mehr an als die tatsächliche Geschwindigkeit." Here is a good website for what the Bullizei(DE Cops) are up too. http://bilder.radarfalle.de/ Just enter your area's zip code or Autobahn or BundesStasse and you can see what dirty tricks they play. Well... you can see where and HOW they set up the cameras. You can also download GPS maps with all current updates on where the Polizei place their speed cameras. It is worth a look! Btw... radar detectors, lic plate sprays and radar jamers are HIGHLy illegall. IF You do get caught... you can't just say the last owner did it. YOU will end up paying big time. I mean right then and THERE, on the side of the road. I bet hundreds of euros - if they get you. |
