Dunlop Direzza DZ102 or Hankook Ventus V12 evo2
Just ordered a staggered set of ARC-8's and now trying to decide on tires. While I only drive my 1er during the summer months, I'd still like to get a tire that performs well but lasts at least 20k miles of normal driving. Right now I've got a set of V12's and, while I've been happy with them, I think I've only got 17k miles and they are looking very tired (1 HPDE track day and a few trips to the drag strip). The Dunlop's are on sale, already cheaper, and have a much higher tread wear number. Does anyone have any experience with them? They seem decent from the reviews I've read. I'm looking at 225/40r18 fronts, 265/35r18 rears. Seems the Dunlops would save around $120 or so over the Hankooks. I'm also not opposed to any other brand/model recommendations that are in a similar price range. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I just put DZ102 on my car in 225/255 (should have gone bigger in rear, 255 looks like it has a little stretch). They ride nice so far. Coming from Super sports I can tell they have a little less grip. I'm still trying to feel the tires as they get worn in. So far, they've been acceptable. I can spin them in first, second and possibly third when cold. When they get a little heat in them they stick pretty good though.

We've had very good experience and feedback with both tires, but the are different from each other. You should indeed see more tread wear out of the Dunlop DZ102, as well as a slightly softer ride, while the V12 EVO 2 would have quicker steering response and more dry and wet grip.

Gary - Do you have any other recommendations in this price range for mostly daily driving duties with the occasional track visit? Thanks!

I would expect the Dunlop to be a step down on the track. It is not a tire that I would personally take to the track unless the driving was fairly sedate.

My evo 2's have been great. Tread life is the biggest benefit. I put them on last September and can probably make it too October before my rears start to bald.

I ordered a set of V12's just now....seeing that there now is an active $80 rebate made my decision easier. Thanks to everyone for the input.
