Your thought on possible modifications

Everyone thinks I am mad to spend money on my car - which will just depreciate more and more anyways...but I'm probably keeping my car for while...and I've got that "new car itch" already...so I wanna do some things.

Firstly, I want the black line tail lights, I've been looking at them for ages and I really want them.

Secondly, I want a spoiler. I've been looking at the oem spoiler, and although it's great from the profile - from the rear - it looks horrible IMO. I am thinking of going with this spoiler from hamann.

Thirdly (and this one I might only do in a while) I want to change the trim on the inside. I want the black carbon fibre (top pic) which will cover the front, center consol, and door trim area's...but if I can't get that - I might go for the hamman one (bottom pic) (leaving the handbrake in leather though). I wonder how much it will cost.

So...I'm looking at around +-R2300 for the lights, and budgeting for about R1500 -R2000 for the spoiler! It will make a nice addition to the car.

The trim will be quite expensive...and that is why I am waiting rather than just doing it - as I don't want to spend too much!

One last thing I'm thinking of doing is blacking out the front grills. This should be relatively inexpensive...and give the car a "new face". I do have concerns it might be a little too minimalist aka plain.

What do ya'll think?

Yes, we are....confused.
Well, I'm not so fond of CF interiors.
IMO, the OEM deck spoiler has been the best looking one yet. Other spoilers are either overdone or underdone.

have a look at the kerscher tuning website. the new complete front spoiler is the best looking in my opinion. you should also check out the ac boot lid spoiler. i changed my stock gear knob to the m shifter. so far , no complaints.

All pretty much like what I been thinking...
The Hamman spolier looks neat.
I thought about the black grill, however, they told me it is a 'downgrade' going from silver grill (330i) to black grill (320i).
Considering the large sum of money and labour cost,
I thought it may be wise to straight to the full M-Sport package.
However, pity I dont really like the M-sport rims and M3 Suspension is gonna be hell stiff !
Going CF will be a fortune and it is surely a top car fashion today!

These trim modifications are a matter of personal preference. If you go ahead with them with the understanding that they do not add value and may even detract from resale value, you will be OK. A question that you may want to ask yourself is how long do you intend to keep the car.

I haven't even got my car yet and have also been looking to upgrade both the looks and the performance. Autoworx in SA can import the Reiger kit (for front spoiler and side skirts delivered to JHB for around R12,000 and add another R2,000 for the boot spoiler) but the problem is, a BMW approved panelbeater has to fit and colour code them otherwise, you loose your paint warranty. I would hate to know the costs of the labour and paint would be.

Sportech also do kits for around about the same price but fit themselves but I surmise you still loose your warranty. Sportech state that "With regards to performance we have a software upgrade available at a cost of R 5 800.00 (for the 325i) but I do not recommend this because you will only gain 12kw so it wont be worth your while for the amount of money - this upgrade only makes an impact on the 320d."

SAC haven't any performance upgrades yet.

I'm doing these mods, because I am probably going to keep this car until the facelift comes out.

My grill is virtually black already (cause I have a 320d) so it won't be downgrading, but rather make the car more stealth.

I can always go buy new grills if I want, they'd come in at around $100.

:-)

BlackLines: yes, look great on black
Spoiler: yes, but personally I would never fit non-OEM stuff of any kind to my car
CF interior: absolutely hideous, IMHO, OEM or not, but it's your car...
Black grills: ok, but wouldn't do it to my own car

you should do everything you said except for:

blacklines: hold on a little more until other taillight "solutions" or alternatives come out. Alot of people complain about the rear of E90, and chances are, aftermarket taillights will come out.

Hamann Spoiler: I know where you are coming from. I debated between OEM spoiler and Hamann also, and decided to go with OEM. OEM looks "in-place" compared to all the other spoilers out there. All of them screams "AFTERMARKET SPOILER!!". Hamann spoiler looks out of place in my opinion. They tried to flow the line well like OEM but in a different way. If you do want it though, I suggest full bodykit/lipkit to go along with it. Thats the only way an E90 can look good with 'em.

hi confused b1. i'm upgrading my 325's engine with the new twin turbo unit. should be a bargain upgrade at $30,000.00

next i am changing to 305mm 21" tyres & wheels.

next my speed limiter will be removed and the car will go 400km/h and return about 4L/100km at the same time.

seriously, your car isn't even 1 yet. maybe wait for her birthday and buy her a present.

i just want to change over to the m sports steering wheel.

hey b1, have any family & friends told you that they think you are mad to spend any money on your car?

all the Best buddy with whatever upgrade you choose.

you are not mad, I would recommend you to
1. get a new break kit (brembo/ap racing)
2. Sway bar front/back with aluminum rod ends
3. Roll bar
4. coil over Adjustable shock (bump/rebound would be great)
5. 9/10 front/back tires
6. New 4-1 exhaust system
7. Engine is your option
8. Fire ext.
9. Change all rubber bushings to spherical rod ends or more stiffer materials
10. Adjustable camber kit

have some fun during weekend at the circuit track (not on the street). send me some pictures.

Huh?

Everyone thinks I'm mad to spend the money. But I am not spending alot. I would agree it would be made if I spent R50 000 getting a full AC Schnitzer conversion, but I am talking about R2000 lights and a R2000 spoiler and a R100 painting of my grills. Not really too much cash (considering my car cost over R300000)

I was meant to buy myself a spoiler for my birthday and I didn't. And it's soon my cars first service - so I have to do something

I got my spoiler from my dealer, it was in my deal. So when I picked it up it was on there. I also have my blacklines coming to me, so hopefully this week. I think they look good on black IMO
