Do you use automatic door locking?
On a Subaru forum I frequent (wife's car), the topic of automatic door locking is getting some attention. I had to stop and think about my BMW. Does it have automatic door locking? The feature is present in my 135i as a programmable choice. I have it turned off and will leave it that way because I fear being locked out when I exit my running car to place recyclables into the local collection box. Seems like lots of Subaru owners without automatic door locking capability live in fear of a stoplight intrusion by someone wanting money, or their car.
How about you? Is your 1-series programmed for automatic door locking? If yes, why? If no, why not? Peace... Mack

Yes! Locks at 5mph or so.
I don't trust some areas of Orlando.. But I have this paired with 'unlock car when key is ejected'

In addition when I get into my car, in most areas, I manually lock as soon as my door is closed. When in, what I consider, a safe area I let the automatic lock function as designed.

I leave mine off. Mostly because I have comfort access so I leave the key in my pocket so there's no "unlock when key is ejected" option. Also for things like autocross I leave the car running to warm up in grid while I get out and walk around. I haven't done any research, but if "unlock when placed in Park" is an option then I'd consider enabling the automatic locking

Yes, I've been watching too many carjacking videos on YouTube lol.
I have Comfort Access so unfortunately can't unlock on key ejection, and also have a MT so can't unlock on Park. So I have to pull the handle twice. |

Yes. It automatically locks at 12mph, as programmed through Carly. I also have it automatically locking 5 minutes after I leave the car (shut it down, door open, door closed). I never leave the car running without leaving some other way to enter the car than the exterior door handles, just paranoia about it locking me out...

I have mine set to auto lock at 2 mph. So basically instantly when I drive off. When I park it's a double pull of the handle to unlock it and get out. It works great and I do t have to worry or remember to lock it when driving.

I have mine turned off. Never have anything exposed in the car. Not concerned about car jackings. Seems every BMW I've had has ten pages in the manual devoted to security. Germans must be paranoid about their stuff. I'm not.

Question is does it unlock in all cases where the car has crashed or lost power? I've always wondered. I thought I read on this forum that the answer is yes. As long as I'm not locked in the car after a crash then I like this feature. Security is important and I lock all my doors always, house and car.

I've made it a habit to hide anything out of plain sight when I park. Laptop is either in a bag or in a trunk. I'm not getting like a $500 or however much window smashed for an older laptop that could barely break $100 on ebay.

I use the function that locks as I start to drive, but there's an auto timer lock as well for when the car is sitting that I definitely disabled. Really don't want to pop out of the car for a moment to get something and hear the thing lock behind me with the key in it. I usually just keep the key in my pocket (comfort access) but sometimes it's in a jacket that I'll take off when driving. The car SHOULD know the key is in the car, and prevent it from locking. But I've seen it happen before and that's enough for me haha

Mine are set to auto lock, just like my Civic and many previous BMW's I owned. If you wreck the car, the car automatically unlocks and turns the hazards on.
Likewise, but I don't use this much as the key rarely leaves my pocket with comfort access. |

I'm on the no side. Never been worried about someone trying to open my door and do... whatever it is that people are concerned about... while I am driving.

Auto locking upon driving based on speed set to 2 mph. Auto locking after shutdown NOooo way. I'd be worried about it locking my keys in.
