Freight, PDI, taxes, etc...
Hey guys,
making an appointment to talk to one of the dealers tomorrow; have been in contact and want to sell my car privately, pay off the financing (should break even), and move up to to a 135i... I've been browsing the forum for the last week or so; I've gotta say, it IS one of the best forums I've ever found, in general. Anyhow, I live in Canada and I would like to know from those who have gone through it just how much you have to pay in extra charges above the final price after the MSRP and options... I can work out the options that I want and the GST on my own, but I am uncertain about freight, PDI, and all those random costs... I know maybe freight might vary, but a general idea would suffice. Please advise. I am planning on putting $2,500 deposit/down and fear that the extra charges will eat that up, so that I will effectively finance the full price of the vehicle (~$50K)! The main point of all of this is to try to put some numbers to it so that I can decide if I can really handle these payments or not (current car payments are just over $400). I estimate it should come up to about $1,000 a month. Financing rate might have something to do with my decision, but I can pay off good chunks of it every year to decrease my amortization... and prime just went down, so who knows... Lastly, I apologise if this is a repeat of other posts... I thought I'd browsed enough trying to find this information... |

Hi raisemyrent and welcome to the forum. Good to have some new members as it looks like we'll be losing some old ones.
Quick answer, kiss your $2500 good bye. Advance Disposal Fee - $25.00 Documentation Fee - $300 Air Tax - $100 (love that one) Freight PDI - $2195 Battery Levy $5 |

Welcome, Bringinthewolf pretty much covered the whole thing. I've never financed from BMW CAD before but just make sure you're allowed to make lump sum payments. I'm pretty sure I've heard that some finance agreements don't allow for that option. |

I've preordered the 128i coupe at EDMONTON BMW few weeks back and here is what I paid.
Other than the MSRP. (All in Canadian dollars) ---------------------------------------------------------------- -Freight/PDI- 2095.00 -Admin Fee - 399.00 -Tire Tax-4 Tires - 16.00 -Air Conditioning Tax - 100.00 -5% GST on top of the MRSP and the things above. -There is a 799.00 tire warranty but it is optional...so I took it off thinking that I would just use regular tires. So if your considering the tire warranty add 799.00 if not omit it. Total with out tire warranty - 2610 + GST Total with tire warranty - 3409 + GST ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hope this gives you an good idea of your car payment. Mines coming in APRIL... i can't wait..........!!! oh yeah and the finance is like 7.75% on a 60 month finance but BMW offers the balloon pricing... which is basically paying some percentage of your car at the end of the financing maturity date. I believe it was: -3 year finance = 50% balloon -4 year finance = 40% balloon -5 year finance = 30% balloon |

For Owner's Choice, the rate is 6.75% 24-36 months. 7.75% 48-60 months.

Go for a nice drive in your new 1 to the States where you can pick up a front & rear new run flat for the same price as the tire warranty. Then just keep the tires in your garage for if/when you need them. If you don't ever use them, then sell them and you are still way ahead of the game.

This idea was just meant as an alternative to the tire warranty. Run flats are often hard to come by so having spares available would stop you from being left high and dry while waiting for a replacement. |

A person could save $400 by buying the regular RE050A's instead of the run flat version.
They'd have a lighter tire that way, and anytime you can shave off rotational mass, you're way ahead of the game. It's literally about $100 per tire difference at tirerack.

Yeah just checked that out.. Not bad. Have you ordered from tirerack before? I'd assume there would be massive customs fees. Or do you know of anywhere I can get those tires here for that price?

Check out America's Tire/Discount Tire. I think their prices are pretty good and they have retail outlets everwhere.
http://www.americastire.com/dtcs/home.do Not to take anything away from the good people at Tirerack but shipping tires to Canada is not easy. |

It's all paid for up front and UPS wont charge you anything more when your order arrives in person. The latest order I made with them was for some winter wheels/tires for my girlfriends Yaris. Shipping was $181.16, GST was $26.21, Duties $24.92, Brokerage $20, Provincial Tire Fee $16. Even with all of those fees and taxes in there, they were still $200 less than anywhere locally.

Does anyone have numbers on a 128i? For example what monthly payment would be with say base model + luxury pack? Lease over 36mths or finance over 60months? Comparing with other cars in this price range BMW lease/finance monthly seems to be quite higher, also wanting freight pdi up front $2000 charge! I compared to a honda accord coupe v6 ex-l around same price 35-40k and monthly lease is around $550mth, due on delivery is $750!
