Hi guys ,
Have a bit of a curly question for you.
My car was cold and I needed to move it before I could change the oil on it, the car was started and moved (engine only ran for 1 minute max). Normally It would be hot and parked in the location where it was to be changed, once cool I would start.

When I dropped the oil only 5.5L came out . My Idrive showed MAX before the change. My question is it possible for approx .75L to be still in the head/other parts of the engine as the oil was dead cold when moving it , or could the oil sensor be faulty?

Cheers

Edit: I started working on the car straight after moving it. I know it was silly but I wasnt thinking

Thanks for the reply. I was unable to leave the car overnight as I needed to drive it. I added 6.25L instead of the 6.5L assuming that some of the oil was still in the head/other parts of the engine. The Idrive reads Max... To get a accurate level I think I will have to drive the car till hot, leave it to cool, drop the oil and measure it again. Unfortunately I am unable to tell if its the sensor or if It was my stupidity this afternoon....

some of the oil is still going to be in the oil cooler/lines. as long as it reads max on the gauge, you're fine.

From the oil reading its shown by bars anyways so its not going to be like 0.000001 accurate.

Sometimes its best to do the change when the oil is not at the operating temp because the viscosity would be lower and oil can run out of the lifters more easily when hot. This can cause initial lack of lubricant for your mechanical parts, damaging the engine.

Like ezeedee said it's in the oil lines/cooler, oil filter housing, etc, etc. There's nothing to worry about m8.

Don't worry to much its all good, the BMW sensor is just an indicator never 100% accurate.
For next time drain the oil on level ground and when the engine oil temp is up to at least 70deg. Use a rubber glove from the kitchen as the oil is HOT
Pull the filter first then drop the oil and let it drain for 5-10 minutes.
Replace all the filter seals and drain plug washer and fill with 6.5ltrs of 5/30
Motul or Castrol fully synthetic oil, do it every 5000km and it will go forever

I was originally taught to change my oil hot & (if there's a dipstick...), check it cold. That's the way I've done it for the past 30 odd years. If possible I crank the engine over for a while with the ignition disconnected to prime it afterwards. My oil's usually ~100 deg on the 135 when I drop it. I haven't burn't myself too badly yet...
