Have you even noticed your Comfort Braking?

According to the ultimate ownership dvd when we brake to a stop the 'puter eases up on the brakes at the last second to prevent the "rock" back.

Has anyone even noticed this feature?

I do that by myself and people always compliment me on how I come to a stop.

I think your thinking of Hill-Assist.

.........

To the others, are you actually lifting your foot off the brake pedal before you come to a complete stop?

Yeah, like right before so it's a really smooth transition. It's just a slight lift and reapplication of the brakes, but it makes a big difference in comfort imo.

You want to brake progressivly and then ease up as you are actually stopping.

I hate being in the car with people that cant drive smoothly. Whether its braking, shifting, switching lanes...I just dont understand why people opt to beat on their cars and their bodies.

I like the features of the breaks, its nice to know that BMW is advancing technology. Hill-Assist is an amazing feature for hills in winter with 6 speed.

I find Hill Assist annoying. If I am on a very steep hill and stopped, and then begin to accelerate...it seems like the damn Hillstop is still activated. I am stepping on the gas, the rpms are going up and the car doesn't move for a sec...then it takes off.

Any others find Hill assist odd?

I think that the hill assist is worth it just for the parking garrage at the mall... Everyone allways gets right on your ass and you dont have to worry about roll back... I generally give it a second after i engage it without my foot on the brake before I go and I have not felt it restricting me...

This is slightly off-topic but, what does "shimshimhada" actually mean?

Reason I ask is that everytime I see Rosa Kato in your signature, I keep mentally associating it with the fact
that I want to shim-shim HER hada..... Hada hada, faster faster!

If I knew what it meant, I might stop having these crazy thoughts.

Thanks.

Given my experience with women, the sad truth about that is that I probably would bore her.

Comfort stop is of no value because since I started driving I have always eased up at the end of braking to come to a smooth stop. I know what people mean about those who don't and you are sitting there and your forehead nearly goes through the windscreen because they keep the brakes jammed.

I have been curious about this feature and tried stopping with constant pressure on the brake and it does seem to work, but I think that most competent drivers will achieve a smoother stop by themselves.

As for hill start assist feature, I absolutely love it, it makes driving far more comfortable in hilly areas.

I've been thinking that the hill assist for two teenagers, soon to be learning to drive standard, could be a real plus, worth potentially thousands. I've been pricing bumpers lately, because our cars have been hit 7 times in 12 months (none our fault, 6 while stopped, including 4 times parked, and three of these were rentals) - sorry, but I now think this way, and a 323i would be the replacement for a minivan.

Yes, I notice it. I know exactly when it kicks in and when it doesn't. It can even kick in in situations where a sane driver wouldn't ease off the brakes. Of course I can do without it I used to manually achieve soft braking when I want to but now I don't need to.
