Factory NOT closed in August?
Several people have repeated a story that the BMW factory making 1ers in Germany closes for the whole month of August for vacations and retooling.
I'd like to report that this is apparently not true, because my car is in production NOW. The dates have gone about like this: original order 7/7 listed as "scheduled for production" 7/30 (not sure why this was delayed) began production 8/18 (also not sure why this took so long, maybe some staff ARE on vacation) scheduled for completion 8/22 So apparently there is still production there now--these must really be the very last of the year-1ers. |

I believe the Leipzig plant was closed for the first two weeks of August. But obviously up and running again now.
