How well does Coral Red wear?
I've been planning on getting the CR interior because I am tired of almost 20 years of black...
I am admittedly hard on my seats as I just toss random crap in them (wife still hasn't let me live down what I did to a seat in the 996 with a SCUBA reg) and almost never clean/moisturize them. I also have rather oily hair/scalp that does no favors to head rests. Obviously the CR will show stains and dirt easier than black will, but how well does it stand up to normal wear? Things like when you rub the seat getting in or out, picking up the dirt off your clothes, etc... Basically, how well does it stand up over the years? Any pictures of older CR interiors would be helpful if you've got them. Thanks, -dave |

I really LOVE the red coral interior. The only thing I noticed is after a few months time, I had some stains from when I wore black Levi's jeans. The jeans were not new... but they left some black marks on the bottom of the seats. I used some Leatherique cleaner to get rid of the black marks. Now everything is fine. Even now when I wear the same black jeans. ? Not sure why that is.
I did use Leatherique cleaner and then I followed up with some Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil. The oil really made the leather softer. Not as soft as everyone was saying here... but still it was big improvement! I would recomend you try it. Leatherique is kind of pricy... but it is worth it! http://www.detailersdomain.com/leath...enatoroil.aspx |

mine is an 08, over 35kmiles on it already, everything is still in great shape. I do use Leatherique oil and cleaner on it every 2-3months (depends on laziness). No food/drinks except diet coke in this car. My wife's car is a 04 Z4 with CR interior, it has a few coffee spills (mainly Mocha from starbucks) in there but they're completely gone after some Leatherique treatment. The leather on the Z4 has a few nasty scratches but the color is still very vibrant after 6yrs.

Here is a photo of a 120d coupe I took at the Welt a few months back. IF you carefully at the drivers left bottom bolster you can see it deformed. I think this was a worse case scenario bc all the cars are open at the Welt and ppl just pounce on them like at an autoshow.

I've had mine since June of 2008 and it has been exposed to the elements since I drive top down a lot. It has worn quite well. I did have one small problem with the driver's side left bolster as it wore prematurely but BMW Canada approved a new seat cover which was replaced a month or so ago. I believe it was something defective with the part over the bolster.
It does show stains and dirt more. I have a booster for my youngest son in the rear seat. I guess the cover started to transfer it's black colour onto the back seat without me knowing as the booster isn't taken out much. I wash freaked at first but I used a little leather cleaner and it was gone without an issue.

Thanks for everyone's input. Sounds like it generally holds up well, but I would have to take car of it better than I have previously done.
Thanks, -dave |

I have CR interior and it's holding up well. I'm only 150lbs and I'm very careful getting in and out of the car. There's hardly any wear on mine.

it's generally not the color that you have to be worried about, it's the leather. I hate to say it, but I have had numerous bmw's and all the seats eventually look stretched. On the 128i that I have this time, I am trying for the first time, fake leather. I want to see if that holds up better than the real leather seats.
So far so good on the 328 sedan and 128i (but they are both less than 1 year old), my 2007 328i however... i can start to see the stretch. Btw, I am also around 150 lbs, so it's not like I am putting too much weight on it |

The driver's seat will show dirt and wear, but no more or less than any light color. The rest of my leather looks absolutely like new.

I just cleaned and treated the Coral Red in my 128i with Zymol Cleaner and Zymol Treat. It looks a little brighter now so it must have gotten a little dry over the last year. I am still very happy with the color choice.

9 months of having CR interior... still looks perfect.
At 230lbs, I am conditioned not to roll off the bolster when getting in and out of the car. still looks factory new. Used zaino bros leather products about 3 months ago... which reminds me, I should clean and condition.

Like anything else automotive, you get what you put into it. Clean and treat it a few times a year and it will last. My coral red looks new at 32K miles.

To me, black leather with just a minimal amount care will stay better looking, longer.
