Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm interested in doing this myself... Lots of questions tho. What head-units have you found that will fit? How did you relocate the stock head-unit?
I'm torn between doing this double-din versus going single-din in my '10 128. Any advice would be great!!

sarge doesn't visit the site much anymore, but the stock unit for the build was relocated to the trunk next to the xm radio module. the fiber optic lines had to be extended from the dash to the rear as well as the canbus lines.

it's no joke to retrofit if you want to keep the sos/bmw assist with no error codes.

if you dont care about those options, just unplug the existing radio and put in whatever you want. the dash interior has a lot of plastic support structure which youll have to remove with a dremel to fit an aftermarket unit.

I figured as much. I was hoping to glean a little more information. Trying to decide whether it's worth the effort to do the double-din vs. doing the single. I'm slowing gathering parts...

Can you "code out" the sos error codes?
