In order: Excited,Concerned,Angry,Ready to Whack!!,Concerned, Now Happy 330i owner!!

My purchase experience as follows:

April 22, over the phone I order a SG 330i with Sport,Premium,Blk Leather, Sat prep, and Aluminum Trim.
I nego. about $500 off the MSRP.

May 9, the car is built and waiting for a boat, May 17 it sets sail for an estimated arrival in L.A. on June 10, and then delivery at my Stealer on June 16-20.

May 10, dealer agrees to take my car as a trade in if I find a buyer, for a charge of $400 through a third party dealer.

May 17, the first person that looks at my 540i offers to buy it for $4k above the dealers best offer, yet still fair market value. I agree to meet the buyer at the dealer on May 25 to do the trade, three weeks before my car will arrive.

May 24, 18 hours before I'm supposed to meet buyer at dealer; dealer calls and changes the terms of the trade in policy.
They say the only way for them to consumate the trade is for me to pay off the car "$26k owed" and bring title to transaction BULLSH*T. And they will hold those funds $26k until my order arrives in three weeks. I need those funds for other projects.

Do I loose a great buyer because my dealer all of a sudden changes policy. NO, NO, NO......I called every other dealer in a 50 mile radius and nobody had what I needed until June

I then proceeded to unload on my salesman for misinforming me and I said find me another car today or I walk!!! He then has the balls to argue with me and say "YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO BUSINESS WITH US"...............WHAT    . I hung up.

He called back 20 minutes later and said they could get me a Ti Silver with the same options as the ordered one. It would be available the next day and they would give me another 1% off, I said $600 and they agreed.
Everything was ready when I arrived and two hours later I had my new 330i.
Me likes

Now,Titanium was actually my first choice, but a friend of mine actually ordered the same car for ED in June. Maybe I'll throw a spoiler on mine to show the difference??

Either way a bad situation turned out for the better and I'm driving my 330i three weeks early and won't have to rent something in between.

Pictures to follow

LONG LIVE BIMMER FAN!

Good news getting into a new 3 series ahead of schedule. I have to drive my F150 for 3 months while I wait for mine!

Now about that dealer....I think the downsides are the stress he/she put you through and settling for a different color. That would drive me nuts. I want exactly what I ordered with all the agreed upon terms or I walk. Period. These dealers don't realize that in a very short time the "new" 3 will be discounted/promoted/subsidized like they ALWAYS are...and they'll have to quit acting so full of themselves.

I don't understand why you would even want the dealer as a middleman when somebody is offering you $4k over what they were on the car? Why not just sell it right to them as a private party sale?

Congratulations soon2be90! I love my titanium silver... you could have done much worse than being able to get into a titan silver e90 ahead of schedule.

I needed the dealer for the tax credit. Otherwise I'm paying 9.2% tax on $40+k. Instead I paid tax on the difference of about $11k, so it saved me almost $3k in tax.

Just out of curiosity, what year was the 540 and what made you decide to get a 330?

Thanks

I see. That's interesting. I haven't done a trade-in yet. That's not a bad reason to involve the dealer

This is my 7th Bimmer and my 3rd "3". Since the 330i is a new design and my 2001 540i is aging and the same virtual body as 1997, I thought it was time to change. I also change Bimmers like I buy shoes (often).
This is also my first new BMW, so I think I'll try and keep it for at least three years, or until a 4 door M3 comes out.
I can't say enough about my 540i, probably the best car I've ever owned....................but with the combination of owning something new and better MPG, HVAC, equal performance, better handling, and improved size, it was a no brainer for me.
The only thing I really miss is that TORQUE
