Engine overheating going into limp mode

So today as I was driving to college my car went into limp mode with NO 1/2 engine light or nothing. The only light that came up was the High temperature engine coolant light and I eventually got a STOP ENGINE message saying the engine temperatures are too high. When i'd hit the gas nothing would happen. Not sure what caused this but I'll keep you guys posted....

It said 'stop engine' but you were hitting the gas? Were you ignoring the warning or just trying to get off the road to a safe spot or what? Kinda scary.

Never heard of this before. Engine coolant overheating? Wow, you should get that checked out ASAP.

I've had the reduced power engine light come on when I was idiling for a long time with the AC blasting. But never a stop engine light. My solution was to actually start moving slowly, to get air over the radiator.... but it sounds like you were already moving.

Check the rad and see if you got a plastic bag stuck in there or something. I've had to pull over before to get one off of a previous car.

You def need to bring/tow this to a dealer ASAP. IF YOU HAVE MODS TAKE THEM OUT!!!
