My Modified Lotus

Sorry that this thread contains no BMW content but i had a few questions from another thread regarding my lotus so rather than hijacking i thought i'd put up some info here for those interested -

This is my 2003 Lotus Elise 111s ( genuine 111s ), it was built in three stages to compete in targa tasmania and time attack events. When i bought it it was in very bad shape having just competed at Targa and then been parked for a lengthy period.

When bringing it to Brisbane from Sydney the transport company also dropped the front of the car off the truck causing significant damage.

I completely took the car apart and rebuilt the entire thing so that it was in better than new condition. I had it off the road for about 3 months in total while i did the rebuild. I really loved taking the car to pieces and putting it back together. I've got another elise that i'm about to start on but that one will involve an engine transplant to a honda k20.

The car has a short article in fast fours at the moment with the full article coming out in the next few months.

Here's the mod list and some pics.

Sweet ride and it's in immaculate condition. I've never driven a Lotus before but would love to drive one someday. Any photos of your lotus in action?

Said it before but, that is a stunning car and I love that the mods aren't taking anything away from the classic Lotus look. Really really love the car.

Did you do all the work yourself? That's a pretty big undertaking mate. Any build photos?

BMW86, I recently had a chance to take a friend's Exige 240 Cup (track ready special edition - in Krypton Green) during the monthly track meets and the communication and feeling is just so amazing - semi slicks were a bit of nervous in the damp corners though! My handful of Lotus experiences have always been just sublime.

Really hope the proposed updates to the Lotus brand go through and the keep the handling exactly the same.

Thanks, I don't know if I could drive it but I would be stoked if you took me for a spin! Thanks for the new pics, interior looks sweet too. One of the best Lotus' I have seen.

Everything I hear and read about the Lotus says you can't beat it's handling and there is a sensational connection between the driver and the road. I see this one Lotus that gets around town all the time and it takes any corner or line with ease, amazing cars.

Looks fabulous and a lot of work done!

For anyone interested in a Lotus be sure to trial getting into the cockpit and assuming a driving position first!

Geeting out is the hard part, both physically and psychologically.

Cheers,

Very nice.
Last time I was in Sydney I made the mistake of walking past the Lotus dealer. Well I had to go in for a look & a sit! Getting in and out (difficult) is certainly something to consider if you used the car often but I may just have to take one for a test drive. I've now got all the brochures at home and pull them out every couple of days. Maybe this is a cheaper way into the GT3 experience I'm craving...

Tim a GT3 and an Elise or Exige is a totally different experience. There are a lot of 996 and 997 GT3 owners who buy it, wash it and sell it a year or so later with less than 5,000 kms on it. Buy one of them second hand for a good price and you won't look back.

There is definitely no substitute for the GT3 experience. Gives me shivers every time I even think of the things!

Plus the 996 are going pretty damn cheap these days and they are pretty damn bulletproof for what they are.
