It is our trunk floor\ battery tray:

I'm not sure where they would move the battery to?

And then there is our charcoal filter (Euro spec 1ers do not have this so we may not see it on the mule.):

Nice one.

I think you did that to the post of your exhaust also...

Cheers mate!

So, we're looking at what is likely a 2-year run before a short hiatus followed by an M version of the F20 (if there is going to be one). It will not be produced more than a couple of months past the introduction of the next 1 coupe - if that.
The next generation 1 series coupe will not be in the U.S. next year.

Check Real OEM for the E46 330 and M3. I have mentioned before that to get the quad muffler on the E46 M3 they made similar modifications. On Real OEM the picture is the same but use different part numbers and pricing. Both E46 non M cars and 1 series cars were designed for single exit exhaust and floor pan modicifation is almost unavoidable.

Exactly. I hope they do the same thing. Because if indeed they go for the wrap-around setup, I will be severely disappointed.

I realize that I wasn't as crystal clear as I could have been in my post, but I said that the next 1 series is due out next year and that BMW typically releases coupes up to a year later and M versions after that. As in next year the world will see F20 1's in the showrooms and then up to a year after that they will see coupe versions.

Did they have to relocate the battery on the E46's? Iirc, wasn't the battery still in the trunk? Our battery sits very deep in the trunk cavity. To raise it, would mean the false floor would be raised significantly. I think it would make for a really useless trunk IMO. It's already tough to get a suitcase into it depth wise.

this is a somewhat naive question, but on an inline six cylinder engine, doesn't having 'true' dual exhausts (like the e36/8 M coupe) weigh more than a single exhaust that is larger diameter?

or is it basically a wash?

i get it on a v6, a v8 or the v10, but on an inline engine, it seems to me to be not as critical given the packaging of intake and exhaust flow on the engine.

No, you're correct. It's a 100% waste of material and just adds weight. Not to mention that it costs twice as much in accident repairs. Lots of track prepped E36/8's have a single sided setup that just collects 2 into one ahead of the rear diff, I'd imagine that the E82 M will have a setup more like the E46 M3, and a single rear collector that has four pipes welded to it.

so this is really for the sake of a "signature exhaust", eh?

The 335i and M3 are the same way. One muffler, 4 pipes right? The difference is that the E9X's have two seperate midpipes right?

Somewhat oddly, the 335i has two separate rear silencers while the E9x M3 has one, semi-separated one. Both run two midpipes, which makes some sense, as the M3 is a V8 and the 335i has two turbos. Real OEM hasn't updated for the N55, so I don't know how the new dual scroll turbo is being exhausted, but it seems that dual mid pipes would be unnecessary.

As the owner of an E36/8, I can say that it's a full waste of materials, and it was one of the deciding factors for me to pick the E82 over an E92 and the silly, convoluted exhaust.

I am sorry but I am not sure what they did. My E46 was a 330 4 door with ZHP. I needed 4 doors at the time.

The E46 M3 has the battery on the right side of the trunk where the first aid kit is in your car. I suppose the E82 M will lose the space under the false floor completely due to the exhaust system, and it will have the battery at the same spot as the E46 M3 (and E9x M3).

I think you're right, the N55 has a single mid pipe (unless I'm mistaking something in the following picture):

We shouldn't forget though that the engine as used for the E82 M could have a different/updated turbo setup, so dual mid pipes could make sense. That being said, I only see one mid pipe in the spy pictures.

Best regards,
south

I'll voice the opinion that I don't care with how much hp the M1 will leave the factory. Really.
I DO care about the weight, suspension and brakes.
It's just so easy to get 400+ crank hp from an N54 or N55, even the current, non M-tuned ones.

I can't see why the M1 wouldn't have at least something close to 400hp, since the new M3 is going to go up as well.

Torque figures ?

I dont know for you guys but there is still no indication about the torque figures of the M1. It has been rumored to be around 310ft-lbs. According to this should we might expect higher redline with the M1? Otherwise if the +/-360ps are developped around 5800rpm like the N55 I guess that the figures should be around 350ft-lbs on a large rpm band. Also, should it deserve a Boost gauge?
