Recommended CD brand & software for mp3 CDs?

Did a quick search, but couldn't really find the answer to this. Which brand of CDs is the most reliable for burning an mp3 disk? Also, is Windows XP sufficient, or do I have to use a third-party app like Nero?

Any quality name brand CDR would work. I have been simply using Windows Media Player to rip the CDs and Nero (which came with my PC) to burn.

Paul, I use Datawrite CD-RWs so that I can re-use them again and again.
The problem with mp3 burning for the e90 isn't particularly the brand- it's the burn speed you use.
Keep it as low as you can manage. I've burned CD-RWs at 12x and they do sometimes end up skipping, but no problem at lower speeds.

None of mine have ever skipped, even using cheap CD-R's. I do only use CD-R's though, and my favourite brand is Verbatim DataLife Plus. Never let me down.

Windows XP has its own built-in CD-recording software (actually integrated into Windows Explorer - all you have to do is drag/drop files onto the CD-drive with a blank disk inserted, right click the drive and click "burn").

So don't waste HD space on any 3rd party software that's pretty much useless.

Windows XP even has the option of converting MP3's to WAVs automatically for you on-the-fly if you happen to have the desire to burn a typical audio CD.

I use Nero to do all my burning and use Maxell cd's. They have worked fine in my Durango's radio and now the BMW's.

I use Verbatim DVD+RW discs for storing a load of mp3s, all organised into folders.

I've had no problems using them in the DVD drive.

so you can go into different folders on the DVD using the idrive and play music from each one seperately? or its gota all be at once mixed together?

You can do it both ways.
Using folders lets you organise your music more easily.

Memorex CD-Rs work well for me.

Sony's always skipped... it could be my burner also.

when you play the mp3 in the car ...what does it show on the screen... the file name? or the ID3 tag?

There's a lot of info about this on the forum already- give the search a go.
If the mp3 file is tagged properly & the choice to display track information is selected in the Idrive menu when playing the tracks, then you will see the ID3 info on the display.
