Tire Inflation Sensor??

I finally got rid of the Runflat tires and wheels for some new TSW Mondello's on Yokohoma S-Drive tires and it looks good. My problem is when I started to drive the car to check the ride difference, my low tire light came on the display, I then tried to reset it but it didn't reset. Is there anyway to disable without having to take to dealership? If you have aftermarket wheels i would be interested in knowing if your low tire pressure light came on and what you did to clear it? Thanks Joe

Maybe a silly question, but did you transfer the sensors to the new wheels? If you did, sounds like you'll need a reset through the dealer.

Are the sensors in the wheels themselves because I never took the runflats off the rims, just swapped complete wheels. I was looking for external sensors but non found.

You need to buy new TPMS for the new wheels/tires. If you didnt, then thats whats throwing the warning.

Or remove the old ones and put them in the new wheels. I heard they were $60 each.

Ok, sounds like a potential market here.

For example, we know here are O2 sims out there to trick the computer in to thinking the O2 sensors are installed right?

Somebody needs to develop TPMS sims for those of us with aftermarket rims. Say a small device that we fasten into each wheel well that tricks the car's computer into thinking everything is A OK.

...or you could spend that money on new sensors.

You do not have to buy from BMW. Tirerack and other companies sell replacement sensors that work with the BMW system.

I don't know of any way to disable it, but if you just keep driving, the big red light will eventually go out, leaving only the smaller yellow one. When I take my RFTs off, I'll probably just do without TPMS.

I'm gonna check and see if my sensors from the stock rims fit the new and just change them out if I can, I'll spend my money on other mods instead of buying new sensors.

Some of us actually check our cars regularly for safety issues. I check my tire pressures, brake lights, signals, etc once a month. I don'e need all these silly nanny gizmos in the car like the average complacent lazy american slob in a pigged up minivan.

Therefore, if I choose to swap my e46 aftermarket rims without TPMS onto my 1er I feel there should be some clever way to disable the freagin TPMS nanny on my 135. Why should I be forced to play by the same rediculous government rules that are meant to protect the irresponsible minivan slobs? My 2 cents...if you are a minivan slob that never checks your tire pressure.....I'll send a donation to your funeral. Not my fault.....don't burden me with your complacency.

I carry the same feelings with the rediculous seatbelt gongs......and any other government mandated safety issue aimed at protecting the weak!

there is one in each tire and i assume a "reciever" sensor at each corner. all four have to be responding correctly for the light to go out.

You obviously don't 'get' the safety feature of a TPMS. You can check your tire pressure every time before you get in the car (if you're that paranoid and have the time) and you still won't be able to detect a puncture while you're driving. The government mandated TPMS not just to save you, but also to save other people you may affect with a flat or dangerously low tire. Same with the warning lights for signals, brake lights, headlights, etc. They're for everyone's protection, not just yours. That's why they're called 'safety features'.

I just got a set of winter tires & wheels from Tire Rack. Price for 4 TPMS sensors was $164 + $32 for 4 "required" valves. Total = $196.

Problem arose in that one tire was unable to maintain pressure and a local installer discovered that neither the O-ring nor the metal washer that seals the valve onto the wheel was installed when the tire was mounted onto the rim which resulted in the air loss. Tire Rack tells me they will reimburse the cost of the job.

Why is tire rack reimbursing you for the install? Was it one of their recommended installers that did the job?
