If you do not like Turbo M, what will be your next car? Turbo AMG? Turbo RS? Turbo 911?

No. McLaren MP4-12C does not deserve being compared to turbo AMG, turbo RS and 911 Turbo. I would compare it with the F40.

Normal GT3 is 20k less

I know it s a lot more. Better pay a lot more and get a car which suits you. Then pay less than half and have a car with an engine you don t want.

How much would I pay for a BMW Z4 M CSL with S65 engine and 6MT? I can only dream of this car, even if I had the money I would not be able to get it.

Levi

I am comming from a E90 M3 and have a csl. But you have to admit bmw does not make drivers cars anymore even the upcomming M1 that wil weight about 1500kg. That s insane for such a small car. I was also so bored with my E90 M3. It s so heavy you feel it in cornering the front and rear tires when driven hard are gone in notime because of the weight.

It s all green agenda and luxery at ///M. For a daily drive an M1 is nice. But ///M gave you a special feeling in early days when buying. I know when i was a kid drooling over a E36 M3 GT. Last car at bmw i was drooling over was the M3 CSL. The new GTS at 1490kg and M1 at 1500kg with turbo is not were i am in search for. It s a big shame. Because i am a big bmw fan. The CSL is an awesome machine and give you the feel you drive something special.

Update 12/05/10

Seen the car in it's finished production prototype stage late this afternoon. and some new facts , The output cut-off stops at 360PS so look below 360 to estimate the final PS figure,

The Personalisation options will not feature with this generation as it is too late in the cycle to do so, but the next generation 1er will receive the personalisation options. BMW will counter such options with a final ltd run of a GTS M1. Although the standard car will receive usual M appendages such as Carbon Fibre Roof etc.

Car looks mean , standard 5 spoke alloys , or with optional Competition Wheels. The exhaust sound is like a high performance bike , very raspy. On a similar level as the S1000RR Superbike.
When the quad-piped cars hit the track you will be able to hear the full output as sound and exhaust tuning is moving into the forefront of development now.

The "Production" car will debut in mid-late December - the thinking is... Give the consumer a very special Christmas gift.
The car will go on sale in Europe in Spring 2011 and be available in North America for early summer.

A drive in a prototype is only a few days away , but as a 135i owner I am told that it is not just a faster 135i , it leaves the 135i behind in everything where the 135i succeeds.

The key difference is to distance this car as a stand alone model and distinguish it from the current model so it allows the next generation 1er Sporthatch space to integrate itself.

Thanks for the updates, as always SCOTT.

Interesting where the final HP number turns out to be--have you had a chance to drive it?

Love the details--keep em coming.

I am curious to see what he says (if anything) about the ~350 BHP number.

The number is really just a number if the car is put together as well as he says, but it is still an interesting place to "stop" so to speak....

Since the next M3 will be north of 450 BHP, I would have figured 370 or so would have been a better place to land....at 350, you are only 30 above the Performance upgrade kit for the n54.....just interesting....

I'd be happy with 350hp. Since this is the "Rated" hp

The 135i can do 0-60 in 4.6-4.8 depending on the magazine, 50hp more could be whiplash

I am most excited about the exhaust sound, I knew the car would have power.

Slightly bummed to hear the personalization program won't be ready in time for this generation ///M1, particularly now that we know power will be ~350-360. Let's hope they can use more of that thermoplastic in some areas so as to get the weight down. 350hp is fine by me if the car is weighted/balanced properly.
