I doubt the filter is bringing any gains
that looks about spot on...if not maybe a little lower than what others were experiencing stock.

Mine did 252whp stock. This was on a mustang dyno though and i'm convinced something was wrong

not really something wrong as much as it was the Mustang dyno which is one that reads a lot lower then a dynojet or dynapack. The Dyno dynamics and mustang are the lowest reading ones. The only issue is there are things that can be done to tweak the numbers on every dyno so it is really hard to know what is going on unless you are there and looking at all the settings on the dyno program. If you were on a dynojet you would see around 15hp more. I used to run a dyno years ago and know the tricks that can be done.

can an expert please cure me of my ignorance... why, mechanically, does an engine's torque peak and power peak occur at different RPMs? I understand the conceptual difference between torque and power, I just can't fathom why the curves are different.

I dynoed on that mustang dyno which I know reads low but (being unsatisfied) I did dynojet as well and that showed 275 (I believe, away from home ATM) stock and 315whp with JB3+intake w/93octane map 5...this is quite low for the JB3. My half power light came on while on the dyno, it turned off and we continued.

Found out later my charge pipe connected to the TB had popped off slightly...of course. Could have been the problem

HP will come on later than torque because of gearing. It's like riding a bike, you can push really hard but it only gets easy once your going

LOTS and lots of info out there on the interwebs.

Take this with you as you search for info, it's all torque. HP is calculated from torque. An engine produces torque.

It is not low from what I have seen around (135i/335i). Average is around 280 rwhp. Some have more, some have less, depends on circumstances and engine. But(!) I have had discussions on this subject, because people are telling me that 265 rwhp is normal. Has to do with the quality of fuel in the USA they are telling ...

anyway, 275 is normal imo.

275 rwhp sounds spot-on for a stock 135i. I live in Queens, maybe I'll swing by that dyno with you once you get some mods for a re-dyno. Do you have auto or manual?
