Question What's are the widest tires (front and back)that can fit on stock wheels?

Just got an 1M (been lusting after one since they first came out) and I am looking to upgrade the tires (OE spec PS2) to something wider and grippier.

What's are the widest tires (front and back) that can fit on stock wheels without rubbing?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You could go for Michelin PSS wich is the usual upgrade, grips and last longer.

I'm now on Advan AD08-R in 255 and 275 on stock rims, goes pretty well except the rubbing on full lock turning left.
Watch out, AD08R is a WIDE tire, meaning the 245 is already like the PSS 255...

I just saw that the new Bridgestone RE-71R (treadwear 200, yeah right, for autocross) is available in 255/35/19 and 275/35/19. That may just be my tire for next year. I have the updated front fender liners, so hoping they will not rub.

I will return and report . . . in a year!

I'm told the RE-71R is the ticket for autox in street tire classes, but is likely to overheat in a 20-30 minute track session.

255 front and 275 rear are good upgrades over stock. You can't go wrong on the street with PSS tires.

That is too bad, planning to do a little of each. I'm currently on RE11's which handled the track pretty well, grip was consistent through the sessions. They don't really come up to temp at autocross, and their tread wear rating makes them a "race" tire with this years rules.

Those should fit fine as 265 and 315 19" Hoosier A6s fit. Ok It rubs a little in the front, the rears do not rub.

And don't wait a year to report. You should notice the minute you make a tight turn.

My RE-11's are probably going to last me this whole summer, thus the year.

Hi. If you want to go wider on stock wheels and have no rubbing issue, you have to change your front fender liners, then 255 front - 275 rear will fit easily.
I have Michelin Cup 2 255-275.

Interesting, you mention changing front fender liners.
Which ones do you recommend? Do e92 m3 fit? I thought they were the same as oem 1M ones?

Here it is :
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_6961

You have to ask for :

front left = part# 51 71 8 051 591
front right = part# 51 71 8 051 592

Please ask for the MODIFIED fender liners because this number is the same compared to the original ones !!

PUMA BMW code : 49636119-01

Here's the difference between the normal liner and the modified one :

There's a sticky about it ==> http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=682196

I am now using the RE71r's 255/35 front and 275/35 rear. I had two long 30+ minute track sessions last Sunday (temps were 50-55 degrees in the afternoon) with no overheating issues. We'll see how they hold up as we get into summer.

How are they wearing for you? I had a set on my e36 m3 and after 5 days at the track they were corded on the outside edges, even with -3* up front.

They are easily the stickiest 200tw tire I have used but I have gotten 2x as many days out of the other usual suspects in 200tw rating (RS3, Direzza Z2). RE-71 is as sticky as an R comp and wears like one too, in my experience at least.

Hard to tell from 1 track day. I don't have a tread depth guage. I do 3-4 track days and 3-4 autocrosses per season, plus about 8000 miles. I will be happy if they last 1 season.

I've heard the same about the RE-71. The autoxers love them, but track guys are disappointed with the tread life. AD08 have longer life even though they're rated at 180 compared to the 200 of the RE-71.

why would that matter? if anything a lowered car should have less outer edge tire wear due to the lower center of gravity.
