Would love to be there Alex, but sadly I'll be relaxing on North West Island off the coast of Gladstone. Someone's gotta do it.

Well i may be a relatively new member to the forums, however i'd enjoy a chance to meet fellow enthusiasts.

My normal "weekend" car is a old leaky jag thats forever in the workshops, so a chance to take a reliable car out for a good blast would be a really nice change.

So..... count me in !

Count me out ffs.

Just got a ticket - 57km/h at 2.34pm on Friday the 2nd of October (Double Demerit points) in a school zone. School zone started at 2.30pm but school ends at 3pm. Was picked up at Avoca st, Randwick by the fixed speed camera.

Result: 8 points lost and so is my license for 3 months.

When I lost my licence many years ago, I was given the option of being in probation for 12 months (not allowed to get booked at all during this time) or being suspended for 3 months. So I could still continue to drive, albeit very carefully.

You can do it online mate at the RTA website.

Plus, you should also argue the time - 4 minutes is neither here nor there.

What is the usual speed limit? If it's 60km/h, then that's ridiculous: you were doing under the speed limit for the other 21 hours of the day and were only 4 minutes into the time - your car clock could have simple say 2:28pm

That really sucks. Did the school zone have those flashing lights to indicate the 40 zone was active? If not I'd strongly agree that being 4 minutes into the active time is a bit rich. You should simply claim that your clock was 5 minutes slow and you thought it wasn't active yet. Give it a try.

What I also love is that Honda is parked illegally - well within 2m of the driveway entrance.

IMO, that's more of a risk to kids and pedestrians than anything else - blocking vision and any cars entering/exiting that property.

You clock said 2.28pm - try it

There was an article published by the RTA/Police in regards to infringements in "School Zones" earlier on when the penalty/points where reduced in April..

As far as School Zone infringements where concerned it was NOT NEGOTIABLE..Zero Tolerance was the corrrect terms used..

At least you get a souvenir picture of your car.....

Such a sporty machine, it looks like you are speeding even though it is a still photo. Lol.

Gumball, I contested my last speeding ticket and it took 2 years to get to court. By the time I was found guilty I had all my points back. The magistrate also reduced the fine and the number of points I lost. That may be an alternative to accepting the fine. I did get legal advice and had a lawyer with me. The lawyer did a deal with the prosecutor and I pleaded guilty to a lesser offense. I was expensive but I only lost 1 point.

There's not much room to move with school zones. It's such an emotional issue that the politics have taken over from any sense.

My father-in-law got snapped on the Pacific Highway outside one of the private schools (before they installed flashing lights). Because my kids also went to private schools and he knew they were on holidays, he just continued on his merry way, under he 60K/H limit.

When he challenged it, on the basis that there weren't any kids at school that day, he was knocked back on the basis that public schools were still in attendance, and therefore schools zones were still in force.

No debate! Pay up! was that attitude in evidence.

Unlucky on the license, that really sucks

I am one of the emotional ones on this subject as my mate's daugher was knocked over by a speeding driver in a school zone (over 60km/hr).
There are signs to warn us (do we really need flashing lights too?) and if we are not alert enough to realise it's about school zone time whilst driving past them then we need to think more about our driving. Do the crime, do the time...
Oh, and before I get shot down I have points on my license for dumb things, so I'm not suggesting I'm perfect!
