Cracked charge pipe and sensor? Covered under warranty?
Hoping to get clarification on what I am getting back from the BMW service. Car went into limp mode while in WOT 3rd gear. CEL, reduced power.
Brought my 2009 135 MT (currently under CPO warranty only) to BMW service and found the charge pipe was cracked and sensor was damaged (See pic). BMW claims the sensor would not be damaged during driving conditions so I am responsible for replacing the CP and sensor @ $950. The claim is that it would only be damaged if the pipe was removed? Anyone have their charge pipe crack and damage their sensor at the same time? I want to make sure I am responsible for the replacement cost and if I have a case to get it replaced under CPO warranty. Any help/input would be amazing! |

My chargepipe popped off and cracked the sensor cover/bent pins. I told the dealership about it and that I put it back on myself and made an appt for them to check it out. They covered the cost...got a new sensor but same pipe. No issues about it.

Thanks for the input.
Strange that the mechanic is claiming the sensor housing would not have been damaged if the CP popped off. Sounds like it comes down to if the CP/sensor is covered under my CPO warranty. Anyone have the sensor housing break? |

CPO is pretty strict on what they cover, but an item like this should be covered. And I can most definitely see how that sensor could get damaged from the pipe popping off, and ripping the connector out.. I agree with finding a new BMW Center.

Charge pipe cracking at the plastic weld is really common. Especially if you are running with a tune or mods.
Take this chance and get yourself a nice aftermarket metal one. |

BMW SA and foreman are stating the charge pipe/sensor is not covered under the CPO warranty. Submitting for goodwill to BMWNA. I would have thought this would be covered.
How is this a wear and tear item? Excerpt from BMW Extended Vehicle Protection (Gold): Engine & Fuel System: Cylinder head(s), cylinder block and cylinder head gasket(s).
