How to clean the air filter
Was hoping someone could tell me how to properly clean a performance air filter element - do I just wash it in soapy water and dry or do I need to oil it etc?
125i, second hand performance air intake, filter looks like its done a bit of mileage. thanks for your advice

If it's a foam filter, I'd wash it in solvent then re oil using whatever the recommended oil is. SAE 30 or similar??? Work the oil in well and squeeze out the excess.

Presuming it looks like the filter on my new intake, just get a K&N filter cleaner and reoiler kit. The kit comes with directions on how to clean the filter and re-oil. Be very careful spraying water on the filter when you rinse it, too strong a spray can poke holes in the element.
Not sure how often I will clean mine, maybe once a year? |
