Angry Raceland downpipes...WTF did you do to my car?!

So today I decided to put my raceland downpipes on my 2008 135i and I'm not really sure if I like how my car drives now. For one thing, I now have no traction in 2nd gear where as before I did with just the jb4. It's just a tiny bit louder idle wise, but definitely more throaty when I go wot. Honestly, if I didn't mention it or if you looked underneath the car, you wouldn't know I had them in. The throttle response is definitely more responsive as well and the turbos are a bit more audible but not much. If I decide to put my dci in, I'm sure it would be more apparent just like in my previous Evo9.

I remember when my Evo had no traction in 1st when I converted to e85 put a big grin on my face. The jb4 plus the downpipes on map 2 put a similar grin just now. I don't know how much power it's making but I'm loving how responsive it is now, except lack of traction lol.

Its probably the best $700 in total that I've spent on the car. For 200 shipped the downpipes definitely exceeded my expectations in terms of fitment and performance. I had cheap Megan downpipe on my Evo that still made excellent power on stock turbo and I would imagine this would be similar. If it was a set of turbos or something that would require the utmost importance in quality, I would have shelled out the money. Now to get a more efficient intercooler and call it a day.

No I regretfully did not take pictures. Putting them in even with a lift was still a pain in the ass though. It definitely would have helped if I had small hands. I did have to go out and buy some bolts as I couldn't reuse mine. All in all I'm very happy with how it all went.

But I definitely would not do it again. I can't imagine how much shops would charge for labor. I hope the fmic install isn't as tedious as this was.

How much clearance is there when installed? I'm thinking about using header wrap on the dps to keep under hood temps down. Is there enough room to get everything installed with each dp wrapped?

did you have to take the steering linkage off to get to the downpipes? if so, how hard was it?

Yeah you'll be fine if you have them wrapped. As they are only 2.5 inches makes the fitment much easier to handle in there. I can definitely see people having their 3 inch downpipes wrapped under there without issues.

I don't know if I could have proceeded without taking off the steering linkage, but it sure made it more accessible to have it done. On a scale of 1-10 on taking off the linkage, I would give it a 4. The whole process however, Id give it a 6. If you have any buddies with small hands, now would be a good time to bribe them.

I got them from their site: www.racelandus.com

Their customer service is actually very good as well. I usually like to read up and do alot of researching before I buy products, and when I emailed them, it was usually prompt and very direct. It is very hard to beat excellent customer service and a cheap price for a good product.

As for getting together sometime, sure thing. Shoot me a pm and we can figure something out.

Very nice...I'd love to hear them too!!! I am in Miami and seriously considering dp's but I am worried about the added noise on long trips, etc.. How much louder is it say cruising at 70 mph on the highway?

You are running otherwise stock exhaust? So you "felt" a increase in performance with the dp's as the only change? What map are you running on the JB4? Are you still on run flats?

Yes, I only have the downpipes on an otherwise stock exhaust. I'd be glad to show it to you as well so you can see that it is really barely louder than stock. Truthfully I have yet to take it on the highway, but I will do so later today and get back to you, but I honestly don't see it being much louder.

And yeah I can actually feel a difference. Its not as obvious as the jb4, but sure enough I felt it. According to my not so sensitive butt dyno, I would say at least 15-20whp and similar torque. I was running map 1 before the downpipes and now I am running map 2 with the downpipes. And yes, I am still running the crappy ass runflats. I still ran the car on the stock map and the improved throttle response is still apparent. I honestly really like how the car feels now with the combined mods as I was rather disappointed with how the car ran in stock form coming from a 400+whp Evo 9. Granted the car is not as fast as my previous Evo, it really isn't that far off in terms of power. Maybe with meth it will be faster than it, but I'm not going to mess with that as I am 100% happy with how the car runs now all while sounding very quiet still.

How is the materials and weld quality? They look to be chrome or have some sort of shiny painted finish, did any of that burn off etc? Was the fitment pretty good?

I was a bit surprised when I received them for 200 shipped. Granted, the quality is obviously not on par with say AR Designs 3 inch downpipes, but I wasn't expecting much and with that, they definitely exceeded my expectations. The welds are average at best, they are not bad, but they are not as good as the more expensive downpipe options out there. All in all, if you are expecting quality of what you get in 700 dollar downpipes, you will be sorely disappointed. However, if you are looking for an alternative and more affordable option that can still provide performance gains, you will be very happy.

I cannot stress this enough though, fitment was spot on! I had no issues putting those 2.5 inch downpipes in. The chrome finish hasn't burned off, then again I've only used it for one day. Even if it does, I'm not going to care as nobody can even see the pipes to begin with. If they were pink, I'd still sport them!

They are. I had confirmed before I purchased them when I contacted them. If you aren't happy with what you get, you still have 30 days for a full money refund.

If they're stainless, they'll stay that color, just not as shiny and may have a golden color to them Even the expensive stuff will do that as the heat put into those pipes is great.
