Head Unit "Play" question

Does the head unit (or steering wheel controls) have anything equal to a "play" button? I use a podcast player (Podcast Republic or IPP Player) to listen to podcasts. I usually have to manually double-click on the home button then press play, or even unlock the phone to press play on the phone. It's a PITA. I would rather be able to do this without undoing my phone from the under-armrest pocket.
