The BEST $100 I've spent!! I love how my car feels now. It now shifts smooth and I don't drive like an a$$ anymore. It's a hugh improvement. Install cost $66 and CDV from Zeckhausen $37.

A local garage in my town. He works on a lot of VW, Audi and BMWs. An honest guy that does great work for a reasonable price. He swapped out my exhaust on my 540 for $80.

LOL...the CDV is only in a manual shift car.

Althogh I have the wonderful Steptronic now, my e46 also had the CDV and shifting from 1 to 2 was always a hit & miss affair. The jerkiness from the 1 to 2 change was annoying. Sometimes I got it right, other times....just ask Cloud9, which he must be on now.

oh dreaded CDV, how I hate you ! When I get a bad 1-2 shift (probably 80% of the time) I would actually try xplaining this device to people.. but they usually roll their eyes and still think you suck

I think CDV removal should be a mandatory option for all BMWs, and I'm still confused as to why BMW put it in.. their explanation only half makes sense to me, but I guess it must help save the clutch life a little bit with that delay engineered into the drivetrain.. who knows

Is it a permanent mod or can the CDV be reinstalled in case I later find out it's harmful to my car. It seems like a simple swap, but can it be more complicated than this.

Is this something that most people on this forum have done or is it still experimental?

The CDV prevents shock to the drive train when an abusive owner revs the engine, and "pops" the clutch.

If you snap a half shaft, or break the trans with the cdv in place, do not expect the repair to be covered under warrenty.

BMW, puts the CDV calve on to protect the drivetrain, wich is a warranty item. This does put extra ware on the clutch, but that is a non warratee item.

The CDV valve, only takes affect if you are speed shifting or doing hole shots. IN everyday driving, you will probably not notice much of a difference.

Most BMW service station (non-dealer) will be able to swap it for under $100. The e90, is not any more complicated than other BMW, but take a look under your car. It is like a formula 1 car, there are underbody plastic body panels every where.

Yep...he's right on..

The only way a dealer would know the CDV was modified it to take it off and look inside. The modified CDV's are OEM CDV's but without the inner constriction (ie. small hole which slows the passage of fluid).

$100 is cheap since the tech has to bleed the system.

Is this CDV only installed in American versions or is it a worldwide thing. Warrenty is only two years in Europe, (was only one year a year or two ago)and only mechanical failures are covered.




(So 2 years less warrenty and nearly 30 % over the American invoice price...... Sorry, just needed to get that out off my system...)

i found out that you can just take the cdv out. you dont need to replace it with a modified one.

putting in the modified one makes the mod completly invisible incase someone ever decides to look down there..
