Saved some $$....My '95 M3 track wheels/tires work well on the 135i

Seems like guys who track their cars rarely catch a break when it comes to saving some cash. I lucked out. My BBS RK 17x8 ET40 wheels fit great on the 135i. I have a new set of BFG 225/45 R1s on them and now I can use them on either car. Lots of brake clearence in the front. I can run the stock wheels with the Star Specs if the track is wet. Now to figure out what to buy with the savings....I guess that kind of defeats the purpose

They are from Exotics Tuning. They are two pieces and there is nothing below the intercooler section

225's all around on a 135i? for the track? They look nice, you are giving up a lot of grip.

Really depends on the tires used, IMO.

I ran several sessions on both sets at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham this spring and the smaller R1s outgrip the larger 255 Star Specs hands down (and the Star Specs were almost new). About 2-3 seconds a lap quicker for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the Star Specs (Have them on the 135 also), but the Star Specs are not R-Comps made for the track. I find the R1s to be more like the Hoosier R6s, and to give better grip than shaved Toyo R888s, RA1s, or Nitto NT-01s. This has just been my experience...everyone has their own tire preferences.
Totally agree with you. What I meant was that if you had a higher offset, you could run fatter racing rubber. Putting 225's on all 4 corners seems like a waste of good tire space...

I ran a set of wheels on my 135i that I had on my e36 and e90, even though the offset didn't afford fatter tires. I had still had fun, even with smaller R comps than I could have fit. It eventually forced me to get some wheels with a more optimal offset.

Garage List
IMO that's a perfect set of amateur track wheels. Lightweight and great fitment for a square setup. You can add some camber plates and go with 245's next time.

I've got 17x8 et 40 wheels on my car for track, and i run 245/40/17 Kumho Ecsta XS with no clearance issues with stock suspension. Granted, The Star Specs I'm sure run wider, as will an R-Comp, but you shouldnt have any trouble going wider with your next set of tires, as long as your suspension is stock height. Any lowering I would imagine needs camber.

The thing is trying to meet a compromise for both cars. I can't run this wheel with the 245 star specs I run on my M3 usually.
