Hopefully this works. I know the previous owner's last name but not sure if they ever visited the forum.

I saw another list in this thread and according to that, I have #399. So not sure which list is more authoritative.

One thing I immediately noticed was the grille doesn't really match the window trim and mirrors. So part of the deal included the dealer replacing the originals with black kidney grilles. I'm still waiting for them to arrive along with the second car key and tow hook cover that was missing.

Just in case you weren't aware of it, the 135is is supposed to come with black and chrome grilles. It's part of the "is" package. Beautiful car btw.

I always keep the stock parts, so can put them back on if it helps resale hehe. Thank you for the compliment. I have always liked the 1 series, particularly the 135 and felt like I was getting most of the M235i but at a discount. I prefer smaller cars so this is a more attractive package to me.

Here's a 135i next to a 135is:

I think the black grille looks a little more sinister. Thanks, very nice visual comparison.

Hey I'm looking at buying a 2013 135is however it doesn't have the exterior badge and the interior badge fell off so I'm a little skeptical about whether or not it is actually an 'is' I checked the vin and my local BMW dealerships say that the 135is doesn't exist lol so besides the grille and black mirrors is there anyway to tell? The exhaust looks like the BMW performance exhaust but the intake looks stock. Thanks

Agreed! I bought my 135is used, and the prior owner swapped it with black grills, which I love!

Since then, I've replaced the grill with a non-OEM set with the M colors painted on it - so that's an option too (see photos below).

Here is a list made by a member of all the 135is cars by the last 7 digits of your VIN. Check to see if your car is listed.

The BMW dealer should be able to also give you a build sheet on the car. That's what I asked for immediately after I looked at the one I ended up buying. From there I was able to confirm it had the "is" package and then compared it to the list on this forum.

So I returned to the dealer to get my second key and grilles installed. Apparently the technician found a problem with my central locking which is apparently tied a short in my footwell lights. They said they had to order a new part and now they have to reprogram the entire car. Does that make sense? It doesn't to me. If anyone can explain, I would appreciate it. They got the part in this morning and the SA said it will take all night to completely reprogram the entire car. How is that possible for just swapping out a part? I wasn't aware of any central locking or lighting issues when I arrived at the dealership. Just seems weird to me.
