Another "What to replace" thread - 2010 128i w/ 52K miles going to Bilstein B12

Folks,

My car: 2010 128i w/ sport, 84K kms (52K miles), daily driver/year round, I'm the 2nd owner.

Planned chassis upgrades for now: Bilstein B12 kit, Dinan camber plates, Dinan RSMs, Whiteline 2piece RSFBs

Looking for advice on what can be "easily" and relatively cheaply replaced while the suspension is off. I'll be paying someone to do the install, so items that are already easily replaceable like the front strut mounts I will go for, but not looking to press out all the control arm bushings for example. Easy and cheap being the key words here

Using this excellent post as a reference:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1203243

My list looks like:

- 2x lemforder front strut mounts
- 2x rear spring pads (lower)
- 2x rear spring pads (upper)
- 2x front spring pad (lower)

These seem to be obvious/easy/cheap replacements, any others from the reference post that are a must given my mileage?

Also - the B12 kit should come with its own bump-stops front and rear correct? Any other "overlap" parts that the kit would come with which I don't need?

Thanks in advance!
Ash

I believe the front has internal bump stops. The rear uses BMW bumps.

ECS sells a coilover install kit. Might be worth a look.

The fronts have internal bump stops. Rears also come with the kit but they're not internal.

Hm, yes should add those - thanks. Now i'm considering doing the whole ECS kit that Gangplank mentioned above, seems to have all of this and more even if I don't need the bumpstops (B12 comes with them apparently).

Not doing swaybars though, will leave the stock Msport ones. Thinking about this more, may also add rear SS lines since I already have them in the front and the subframe does need to come down.

Bloody hell this shit is adding up!

Just a quick pretty OT comment.

Technically, they're "internal". But not really. It's an inverted strut. They're only internal to the strut body, not to the pressurized cartridge/guts of the strut.

Super easy to access/trim/etc. is you need to (not that OP would).

The unit is very easily removed from the housing.

Here is a link to the kit
https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-13...cks/ES2622813/

Although you probably don't need all those nuts & bolts. looking at their site you could order the front upper strut mount, rear upper & lower shock mounts & spring pads.

Thanks - it's not a bad deal for everything you get even if I don't need all the bolts etc. The only parts I wouldn't want are the rear upper shock mounts so those are a bit of a waste. What I've been doing is adding up all the various parts and comparing costs between ECS, FCPEuro, and a couple of other sites etc. Was hoping to pick one vendor and order the whole lot so that I can get everything in one package, but parts like the Dinan stuff will probably come from Dinan direct anyway...

If anyone has another suggestion for a site that stocks all this stuff to compare to ECS and/or FCPEuro it's appreciated

Being across the border I need to clear this stuff through customs so doing it in one package is easier....

Good to know - thanks. Not having done the replacement myself, is it safe to assume then that part #10 in the link below is the front OEM bump stop and would not be used in the B12 replacement kit because of the inverted/internal bump stop design?

Correct. Nor could you, the Bilstein "shaft" is like 2x as thick.

Aha - yes, that makes sense thanks. I like mutually exclusive options like that lol.

If you are going to do the install by the book, that kit is missing a few items that are one time use only. Mainly the stretch bolts. There are some nuts that are one time use and IIRC, the bolt that attaches sway bar end link to the front strut, but i have reused those a couple times so far without issue.

Here is a list i use. Reference it at your own risk. If anyone sees an error, feel free to let me know. Anything you see with a +xx is one time use only. As i mentioned earlier, there are some other nuts and bolts that may need replacement as well. The most important thing is to replace the stretch bolts and tighten everything with a rubber bushing at ride height.
