Simple solution...use thumbdrive...leave it in all the time...keep iPhone or iTouch with you at all times...cheaper...works perfectly...no brainer.

If your iPhone has just booted, or you have not listened to any music on it, the iPod software is not running, giving the radio nothing to connect to. Click on the iPod icon from the springboard, and perhaps play the first song you want to listen to (this way the car picks it up as the last song you were listening to, and starts it automatically). Connect the phone to your radio using the bmw cable, and you should be all set.
I have to go through this little dance about once a day or so, unless I remember after my phone boots to run the iPod. You will always get the message about the device not being approved for iPhone, it's Apples way of complaining that BMW didn't pay them any money to "certify" the device. |

I use my iPhone 3g in my 135i model 09' with I-drive and Nav Pro and also get the message but it still works just fine... it charges it, I can browse all my music etc and the phone feature is connected via bluetooth. Sometimes after finished call the music wont start playing again but i just need to go to usb in the I drive menu and change song (probably it is some issue with iPhone, not BMW)
