Service rant + tire query
I dropped my car in at dealer this morning for a couple of things - my rear brakes are squealing terribly at low speeds and I wanted an interim oil change done. I had the car in a little while ago to have the brakes fixed and they had the car all day and as I drove out of the centre they were squealing still. I didn't have the time or patience to go back in at the time so just booked it all today. I told the guy that this had been brought up before and to please make sure they fixed them this time.
I also requested that my car not be washed. They use a mechanical wash with those horrible nylon brushes. The service guy wrote DON'T WASH accross the service sheet. I then request a courtesy car (which I had arranged on booking the service 2 weeks ago) but they had none. They fished around and eventually found me a 118i - that i had to pay $60 for. So I go to pick the car up and as i'm parking the 118 some guy in an X5 is made to wait for me as I reverse into a spot. I didn't know the car well and didn't want to hit the wall so admittedly was easing it in a bit slower than I normally would. I get into the spot and the guy in he X5 shakes his head in disgust at me. So i get out and walk up to the car he puts his windown down and he's wearing a friggin dealer logo shirt! He works there! So I say (tinged with sarcasm) sorry mate, was I holding you up? He was a bit shocked and said no no I was shaking my head at the people behind you...(there was noone behind me). Yeh right...ok. Then I see my car ready to go...washed. So I go to pay the service guy and say: Looks like the no wash thing didn't work too well? He replies: No no it didn't get washed. Haha...ok. I couldn't even be bothered arguing. Pay my $300 drive out and the first time I stop the brakes squeal horribly.I couldn't believe it. I tried to call them straight away but noone was available. Never again. Ok rant over....now...I need some new tires. Has anyone tried the Dunlop Direzza semi slick? They got a fantastic write-up in the motor mag tire comparo. They might be a bit too "slick" for day to day use but they outperformed most other tires in teh dry and wet so thought they might be a good option. Cheers and apologies for the rant.

They got away lightly. I'm one who also says no wash. They washed on one occasion and the service manager was very apologetic and made sure I was looked after. They offered to detail my car incl paint protection and a new 740. They never once inspected my car just took my word for it that they had put in fine scratches. After enquiring how exactly they were going to detail the car, I declined. I just said I wanted a discount on the next service. Done, no arguments. Just had a brake service done and they discounted $100. Service advisor said they would keep credit note for next major service as well as $100 was not that much.
Gotta say am extremely happy with my sa. Sorry to hear about the bad experiences on this board! |

$200 is not going to cover your time to correct the paint though .
Haven't have any problems with brakes in that car so far. But my 318 was horrible. Nothing ever fixed it, and apparently it was a problem for all e46 3s.

For your tyre question.
Don't get D03J Dunlop for daily use. If that is what you are referring. Get the Direzza Z1 Star Spec. D03J are called semi slick because they are race tyre, having a rock hard size wall and bloody noisy on highway. Not to mention they pick up stone like a chewing gum. They wear out extremely quickly.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience...
The beauty about living in Melbourne is that due to our water restrictions, the dealer can't even wash our cars (at BMW Melbourne anyways). The most I get is an interior vacuum - works well for me given all the horror stories I regularly read re dealer car washes... |

I don't need BMW Melbourne to wash mine today. And their free loaner today (A Mini D!) looks it has never been washed!
No charge for diesel if you go to the cheapest servo to get 5L. Bring them a receipt. Well I pay for $35 to reduce the excess just in case. I nearly need that coz I was not watching the Mini mirror I have got while changing lanes.

Harpoon,
Star spec are sold here. You get them for $400 each at Stuckey tyres in Melbourne. So it is in Australian Standard. Good news! They are meant to be for daily use. That will be what I will use when I wear out my run craps. BTW, I am 100% sure the stock I see at Stuckey is the same that I saw it on my friends imported from tirerack.
