Well, tried reprogramming a 2010 base audio HU yesterday with CIP 59. Got farther, but screens did not match what AL UK advised me to expect, so need to try again.

IF YOU PLAN ON RECODING, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND SCHEDULING THE PROCEDURE DURING AL UK BUSINESS HOURS.

Q. How do you reprogram the stero system? Is this a dealer only deal? What does reprograming the system do for you>?

There are three possible audio systems in the 1-series, depending on your MY and country:

- Base audio, no amp, 6 speakers, deck power

- HiFi - unprocessed analog outputs from HU to amp, 10 speakers, bass and tereble tone controls

- Logic 7 Top HiFi - optical outputs to amp, 7-band EQ in HU. Processed and filtered analog outputs from amp.

If you are upgrading, you want the HU to behave like point #2 if you can, as that one is easiest to work with. Dealer can't do it but independent Autologic shops might - being determined.
