Non-Working Audio

Any updates on this one? I had *exactly* what is described in that bulletin happen just yesterday for the first time. Get in, fire it up, no audio. Only clock. We stopped somewhere, came back out ten minutes later, and sanity was restored.

config: '09 E82 135i built 7/2/09: Prem+iPod+HD+Sirius+accessory CD changer, CD changer installed and, a day and a half later because they had "programming issues", all re-programmed 9/2/09.

This is just a weird observation. I had this issue a lot when I took delivery. However, ever since I plugged in my Ipod nano into the Ipod adapter...it hasn't reoccurred (been several weeks - previously i had a shuffle attached to just the Aux input). Just seems strange. Anyway...asked my dealer about 3 weeks ago...didn't have the update then...waiting to hear back from them when they do.

No problems since S/W update installed 10/26.
Figure it'll be about 2 weeks of "normal" operation before I'd say it's "fixed".

Had the problem this morning .. I was pretty pissed that I had no radio for my 15 minute commute.

You can just turn your engine off at a red light and restart - it will work then.

I tried that ... didnt work. When I got to my office I inserted and removed the key fob a few times and eventually it worked.

Weird. As far as I can tell, though, the software update works. Haven't had the issue since I had the new version installed.

That doesn't work for me. I have to turn of the car, lock the doors and wait for the system to turn off (you'll know because your start/stop roundel's color will turn off). Then I can restart the car and maybe it will work.

I have been having a similar issue since i took delivery. I finish a BT phone call then switch to ipod and start hearing a really quiet crackle that eventually becomes really loud and makes me want to peirce my own ear drums. I then try to switch to radio, cd or even BT phone to make it go away but the system freezes up. The only thing i can do is turn down the volume and wait for the system to finish crashing. When it does, i have no volume on anything for about 10-15minutes whilst the system reboots.

The anoying thing is the ipod works perfectly as long as my nokia 6600 fold isnt connected (or any phone, eg iphone also fails). Tried both ipod video 80gb, and second gen ipod touch.

And to piss me off more, sometimes mid phone call the system will start crashing, and the person i am speaking to will get droned out in a sea of white noise before eventuallly crashing.

Took the car to BMW Sydney, they are very helpful there, but BMW Germany is being a massive PITA and won't authorise a fucking software update. They had my car over a week, and all they could do (before i got sick of driving their loaner and the risks of the excess) was give me a different y-cable, the white non usb one and tell me to test if the fault happens with it to (which of course it does).

Everytime the SA emails BMW Germany it takes a day to get a reply, and they ask questions and make suggestions to thigns we have already tried, and told them about. It seems they dont want a Software update to take place due tot he risk of components not liking the process and dying.

In the end i told the SA to let me know when they are willing to do the software update and just keep on answering their bullshit emails until they give in. The issue clearly is a BT problem, either software or hardware since multiple phones are causing the issue, and the ipod system is perfectly fine on it's own.

I even offered to buy a 100% compatable phone for the car to speed up fixing the fault, but they coudlnt give me a 100% compatable list of phones, and said each car is different and only the iphone was a known option. Funny that didnt work lol.

Keep at them. Considering how expensive BMW's are in your area, I'd be pissed with this kind of BS service.

Yeah the thing that is pissing me off the most is i have all the stereo gear in my sig waiting to be installed, yet i can't do anything until the issue is fixed or they will blame my modifications (base stereo, no amp. So i need to doa full rewire).

Those focal KRS100's look so sexy it hurts.

I brought my 1er in for service earlier this week and they reprogrammed the radio with the new software. I'll let you guys know if I have any problems.

This is something completely different. I've never had that happen...and you say you've had this since you've taken delivery! What has your dealership said?

The dealership cant even tell me what phone is compatable with my car so i can at least narrow it down to a phone compatability issue or a hu/most/bluetooth issue.

In the end i cracked the shits. I rang up my SA to get a list of known compatable phones as i was going to fork out the cash to buy a 100% compatable phone so at least i could speed up the process. No avail, they needed my car just to pull a serial off some component to get a proper listing. I went to another dealer after getting sick of no returned phone calls and got them to pull the number and print me a list.

Now 2 different phones i have just bought are not compatable, thats 3 in total (Nokia E71, 6600 and 6360 i think) i am back to using a phone that is at least 2 years old a Nokia 6300 and i am trying to test it out to see if the fault still occurs.

I am actually hoping that it is the phone, because whilst it is a absolute pain in the arse to have one of the really outdated phones on the list from october 2008 i really miss being able to use either the bluetooth or the ipod.

The bad thing is BMW seems hesistant to update the software in case the flash damages other components. With my company we keep our cars longer then regular lease periods especially if we love them, which means in 4-5 years time i will still be using the same phone ?

I got my software updated when I got my oil changed yesterday. No problems thus far. Hopefully it stays that way. I'll update in a month whether or no any problems were encountered since the update.
