to make profit ! lol these are high demand, people buy for around 44-48k, drive it for about 10k miles, then sell it for 65ish, but dont get me wrong, if i had the money, i would still buy for 65k!

They do that to be able to elegantly answer the following question during future job interviews:
"Please give us an example of an error of judgement you made in your personal life in the past, which you now dearly regret.".

Because there have been a few incidents of cracking charge pipe which ruined the image of this car. Also, it is not as fast as the sissy-mobil TT-RS.
Interesting thread anyway.

In the UK, the 1M's cost between £40-£45k new and now sell for £30-£37k so uk owners are selling for their own reasons,
Personally I love my 1M but if i didnt run my own car dealership i'd have sold mine so i could experience all the other great cars out there, like the, Porsche 996 Gt3, 997turbo, RS6 avant, e46 csl, Maserati GranTurismo, Ferrari 355, grtr35, Aston Martin Vantage, To name a few that are all in the same 2nd hand price bracket that on their given day are a great alternative to the 1M.

I think the better question is why aren't people selling them?
I guess the falling value in the UK can be attributed to some simple supply and demand. UK: 450 cars per 62.7 million people. 1 per 140k. US: 740 cars per 313.6 million people. 1 per 424k. And then there's the reviews. I can only think of a couple reviewers who snubbed the car. Everyone else had a shit-eating grin on their face when they put their right foot down. |

Lowest price I can find in the UK is £34850 on a early 2011 which was on the market for 39k back then, mileage is in the 20k + miles and minimal options, BMW used car only has about 6 available with a July 2011 model with 7k on the clock going for 39K. There is a couple floating about with very low mileage, options up and in the 40k region.
Not many on the used market though! So a 4.5k drop in value after 2 years is good going for the UK market. |

AFAIK are atm 37 registered (with licenceplates) 1Ms in the Netherlands.(?) 8 of them are AW including mine. NL: 37 cars per 16.8 million people: 1 per 454,000 people. But the car sold new in NL for €79,500,- fully loaded. A way too high price tbh. One of the reasons I bought it second hand. Cheers Robin |

You'll have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands...or, rather, pry my cold dead hands from the wheel.

I think the more obvious answer would be the introduction of the 2m.
Right now, the 1m maintains exclusivity in a very small, niche market. If you want to be a part of it, you need to find one and pay top dollar. The 2m may not be as good of a car, but it will be flooding the market very, very soon. I would not be surprised to see the resale value of the 1m take a hit depending on the quality of the 2m once it gets into reviewers' hands. |

The M2 better be a superior car but we won't know until 2015 or so. I'm putting a deposit down soon. Will the 1M resale go down? I'm not sure. The consensus of a lot of owners is that it's a keeper. I'll never sell mine. Its rarity will help maintain its premium price. I also think that history will reserve a special place for this little beastie since it marks a point where the M division's philosophy changes to an emphasis on turbochargers and lighter weight. Regardless BMW has to note the huge demand for a true drivers car and will surely capitalize on it with the M2. I betcha it'll have more HP and torque which will sell me on it for sure. Gotta love it when your rear tires wear twice as fast as your fronts!
