Windshield Tint?
Have you tinted your windshield? If so, how much?
I got 30% on the sides and back yesterday (SunTek carbon), and I like it, but it seems odd not to have the front window tinted. A 50% tint was suggested by the installer.

Tinted windshields are illegal in TX, and there is a limit to the tint percentage on the driver/passenger side windows; some opt to have the rear side windows (if any) and rear window tinted darker.
Problem with putting tint on your windshield is what to do with the inspection/registration stickers...not easy to remove from tint film without damaging it. Also, depending on the tint, if you have a laser feature on your radar detector, it may not pick up laser - I know this from personal experience. Best I can suggest is put a tint band about 6" wide across the top of the windshield unless your laws allow full-windshield tinting and then you have to just live with the sticker/laser drawbacks.

I had 80% Ceramic (Llumar Air 80) tint put on my windshield when I had my car tinted. Legal in NC and we don't have any stickers on our windshields anymore. It's just to block heat though, not for looks as it's not visibly any darker than no tint at all. 50% is also available but technically is not legal. I believe it was $120.
A coworker of mine just had 50% put on his today but I haven't seen it in person yet due to the hurricane. 50 may be OK but I would think anything darker would be a problem. I'd hate to have to look through my 35% tint at night if it was on my windshield. Might as well drive with sunglasses on. |

I live in Germany for the time being as I am stationed here, and they only allow you to get the back window and rear side windows tinted. I have a 5 percent tint on those windows, I believe it is the darkest you can go, and it looks pretty good.

After some googling it looks like Florida doesn't allow tinting below the AS-1 line. I don't really like the idea of a tint strip along the top of the windshield so I'll probably just stick with what I have. Thanks all.

I just recently had my front windshield tinted. I went with 50% and honestly in most lighting you can barely tell anything is there. It is easy to see through, helps with heat and sun glare. Radar and sunpass are working just fine, only thing I am worried about is if I have to remove the sunpass ever and it damaging the tint then.
I went to a shop up in Boca and they were great, let me know if you want their info. |
