My e88 thoughts
I have had a past 2011 1'r and currently have a loved 2009 MT 1'r that is some what my daily tho I have a winter ride under lease until March 20'.
When I bought my 09' MT e88 20mo ago it had 50k on it and today has 72k my plan was to drive it to 125k about 2022 and get whatever replaces the f23 in a MY23. Cept this week BMW announced no Convertible for next gen 2-Series and probably no MT for BMWNA even if they made a vert, this all declaims my plan. To form a new plan or look through my broken crystal ball into the future. should I- 1- Stick with the plan maybe BMW would listen to it's buyers and by 2022-23 make a vert in a MT 2'r, highly doubt but dare I dream. 2- Order a f23 RWD MT(production ends 06/20) and enjoy for the next 3-10yr while the auto industry moves to progress beyond the need for driving anymore. 3- iPhone 4 was nice but have you tried the new 11pro, the battle for keeping a MT vs Auto feels like iPhone 4 user vs 11pro user and driving when cars will be so much better, different, automated but certain to lack the enjoyment. iPhone 4 is my MT 128 NA inline 6 for a soft top and G-chassis 4-series vert automatic is the 11pro 4- Before the Smithsonian calls for my driving desire just give in to the dark side. Vanilla 330 or 2gc on a cheap lease someday sound nice. Can't relive the past kid, 4wheels and a running motor. Either share insight, advise or share your current plan |

The way I look at it is this, BMWNA and the car industry as a whole are making it way easier to continue enjoying my long paid off 09 135i MT Cabrio. I get that my taste in vehicle configuration is not the majority, but it’s still mine. I can define what I like in a car. Can BMW define what their essence is as a brand anymore?

I bought a 135i e88 earlier this year. Truth is I bought it for my wife after she wrecked her car. But it had problems from day 1 and I didnt want to give it to her with issues. But after driving it for a few days, I told her I was keeping it. Now she drives my 2016 pathfinder.
I have never owned a convertible before. And I didnt use it at all in the summer. Too hot, and I wont use it in the winter. But the few nice fall days with the top down made it all worth it. And I'm moving to florida soon and will use it alot more. Soon after buying my 1 and learning how much work it needed I went out and test drove a ton of cars. M4, some 2 series, Audi's, mustang, challenger, charger, and a few others I'm sure I'll remember later. For the price none seemed worth it to me. I really liked the audi rs3. But I've owned 3 s4's and an rs4 in the past and I'm over audi and the way all their cars got big and heavy since the great early 2000's s4's. I did not drive 1 car that I couldn't live without. The light and nimble 1 series seems to do it for me. I'm relocating after next summer and I think I will purchase another 1, maybe a 128 this time and fix it up for my wife. But really so I have 2 Driving this car and working on it and fixing it is just so much fun for me. Once my car is done i want to start all over again. I just bought 1addicts stickers because in a short time i have become one |

Purchased my current n52 e88 about a year ago and I have zero plans to get rid of it. Last of the NA motors and hydraulic steering, I'm not moving forward on the new BMWs. I purchased a golf R earlier this year and I'm not really a fan of the electric power steering, feels numb compared to the 128.
I also purchased this 1 over a 3 convertible due to it being a true soft top. I like the security of the 3 hard top, but there's no trunk space with the top down in the 3. Call me old school, but I think my 128 is here to stay baring anything weird in my life... |

When I bought my 2008 e88 n52, I had a 2006 Suzuki SUV that was my daily driver. It got up to 150K or so in miles and I gave it to my son more than a year ago. We put a hitch on my e88 and I have been driving it daily. But I now have three grandkids and my daughter says the back seat is not big enough for car seats. I've done it with a family friends child but it is challenging.
So I will probably buy a crew cab pickup next month. The logic for that is perhaps not obvious but I also want to avoid using a trailer to haul most things. That will let me shift the e88 back to more occasional usage. It almost has 100K miles now but I think if I drop the miles back it may survive as long as I do. If not, I will have to decide what to do then. My SUV was a manual but I plan an automatic for the pickup (the model I will probably get can be ordered with a manual, however). I certainly know how to drive a manual after doing so for nearly 50 years but it's nice sometimes to not have to shift.

I love my N55 E88 and plan to keep it as long as I can. It doesn't even have 40k miles yet (39,9--) and I have only added 16k in the last 4.25 years since I bought it.
It stays in the garage unless the top can come down. My DD is a G2 Honda Ridgeline which I really like too. |

Speaking for my parents. They have a Year 1 of the 1 E88 with about 46k miles on it. My mom was considering selling it that is until we took off the run flats last year and put on proper rubber. Ever since then and still today they say they aren't getting rid of it. They love it!
1addicts indeed.

I bought my first bmw a year and a half ago. The 2011 135i m sport DCT has been nothing but a headache. First a ton a maintenance and then the rod bearings went, 6 months later and new engine the injectors failed and rod bearings went again...
I'm 19k in repairs/parts/labor. It does however now have full bolt ons and a pure stage 1 turbo. I probably have the worst luck of anyone on this forum in terms of cost of maintenance HOWEVER, I love this car. We've been through the trenches together, and now it's a beast. I plan to buy another car in 4-5 years so I can keep this one in the garage, drive it on weekends next to all of the new EVs, and never sell it. I love it
