So, after my car failed inspection....
Failed inspection due to the crack in the windshield, but I found a place who will do it, labor and all for 570.00 Euro. Thought it was pretty good compared to BMW's quote of 1,100 euro.
Any other ideas? I would like to save money, but not go too cheap that I get some shady dealer, or half ass work. Thanks guys! *Funny moment of the inspection, the guy asked me to come down under the car with him, and he pointed at the back of my exhaust. He looked at me and said "I think there is supposed to be a muffler here, but I am not sure? Is this a special BMW? This exhaust looks like the stock exhaust, but it's a straight pipe, so I am confused." Made me laugh a little, he said it was ok, but he told me to "Check with BMW to see if I should have a muffler" lol.

Try CarGlass... 0180 - 22 00 122
http://www.carglass.de/ Looks like they have three locations in Stuttgart... http://www.carglass.de/standorte/Stu...FZGhzAodH2EAng Plus they should have a mobile guy too! They are most likely the ones who will do the glass replacement for your BMW dealer. See if you can use a VAT form and maybe they can cut you a discount for paying cash. Most German shops will cut off another 3% when paying in cash. I have had two windshields replaced in my 1er. The glass is not the most expensive thing. Only 350 euros IF I remember right. But the special glue, new rain sensor, windshield gaskets and labor bump it up to 1,100 euros or so. Maybe ask around at various dealers or body shops in your area. You could even ask our friends at MeilenWerk, I am sure they know of a few good places. G.L. Dack

I take it you guys don't have that kind of insurance that covers it and you just pay 150eur deductible? Thats what I have to pay when mine cracks..
Well, mayyybe.. if one knows a (german) shop that doesn't take things too serious, one could try if they give "me" a new windscreen.. but that'd be somewhat not-so-legal I guess

I paid my insurance euro 150 deductible and got new genuine BMW glass and a loaner Mini for the day. It isn't marked as an accident on my records either.

The problem is That_1_Guy (David) has a very high deductible for glass damage (comprehensive) ~1K euros. On my insurance plan I have a 300 euro deductible. I think that is still too high.
We Ami's tend to get raped by the German insurance companies over here.

That is wierd you are paying that much David. When my glass cracked in 2010, Lell BMW in Amberg charged me 680 Euros with no additional costs, not even for the loaner. That is alot of cash to dole out for a windshield.

Yeah. I thought it was a lot too, that's why I went by the local auto glass place, and they seem pretty legit. They also told me only 4 hours, so I won't need a loaner which is kind of nice.

Dude they flat out failed you for that?!! WTF? USAREUR needs to come up with some kind of POV deficiency program (no I'm NOT volunteering) where you have Class 1 gigs (auto fail) and Class 2 gigs where you get your registration but have to come back in after... 30/60 days whatever and show that it was fixed. The way the system "works" now is just ridiculous.
Sorry, rant over
