I like your specs--am considering LMB myself.

Since I already own a 128, I'll say that I love the manual transmission. If you don't drive stop-and-go everyday, it is something to consider.

If you haven't yet learned to drive stick, don't worry. The 128 manual is an easy stick to drive. A lesson or two on a friend's stick, and you should have no problems.

Depending on where you live in Ohio, you should have a number of dealers to choose from, and one of them should be able to come through for you on price.

I DD my MT 128i, i'd 100 percent say go MT. This is my first stick car, but i learned how to drive on my dads 335i. Once you learn it you'll be fine, and the 128's very forgiving for learning if you have to learn on it. It's more fun to me personally to drive a manual over having a boring automatic, i look forward to my daily commute now instead of dreading it. My commute is mostly highway, but theres traffic here and there and it's not as dreadful as some try to say. It's 2nd nature for me, i get into my moms auto car and keep reaching for a clutch pedal.

Also the MT is faster on the 128's since its a true automatic not a DCT.

ya i have an auto i would rather get a manual >_>. D is too slow but DS is too fast, so I have to drive in M mode and paddle shift the entire time.

I've owned a stick-shift car since 1979, everything from a VW Scirocco and an early GTI, and various Ford Focus (Foci?), including my current winter car.

My 128 is the slickest MT I've owned. It is easier to take through the gears than the Focus. I'll probably use the 128 to teach my daughter to drive a stick, come next spring.

I say get your fun while it lasts. The X1 is not available with a stick, and I wonder if that is the beginning of a trend.

I understand. Where I live, I get irritated if I have to stop at more than two red lights a day.

Yes, the 2014 "2-Series" will have the turbo four. The X1 already has it.

So, the last chance at the venerable inline-six motor is the 2013 model year. That's why I am leaning towards getting a 2013, unless I see a very good reason to wait

When did we find out that the official switch to the 2 is coming in 2014? That would make the 1 only a 5 year model cycle in the US (2009-2013), which is 2 less than normal. Is that what they're doing?

I agree with what you're saying regarding E82 vs. next gen., but I never saw official word of the switch coming next year.

Edit - 1er started in 2008 making it a 6 year run.

2 Series will be introduced at the end of this year. Last chance to order a 2013 1 Series (hydraulic steering and in-line six cylinder engine) will be sometime this Spring. I called my dealer to see if they knew a more precise time frame but they don't.

7-8 years are the norm for most generations regardless of market. I went on a tour of the Regensburg plant a few weeks ago and E8x coupes and convertibles are still rolling off the assembly line.

It's too bad we did not get the hatch back.
